We have been concerned about cow's milk, so we switched to organic. My son has eczema so I wanted to try soy. My neighbor pointed out that soybeans have a lot of natural estrogens. Will drinking soy milk cause my son to have problems?

TIA!

I used to give my son soy, but I won't anymore. He drink's goat's milk products now and is dong well. I read some information equating the estrogens in tofu to birth control pills. Yikes! You may want to research raw milk for treating eczema.

besides estrogen soy milk has very high levels of something called phytic acid. This is a natural substance found in grains, legumes, seeds and nuts. There are ways to neutralize this acid which traditionally has been done by various methods such as fermenting (sourdough), leavening, soaking etc, but unfortunately soy milk is not made using proper methods.
Phytic acid will inhibit your gut from absorbing minerals by binding to them (calcium and everything else), which can lead to serious deficiencies when consumed regularly, and soy is naturally very high in phytic acid.

Does anyone have any good links for more info on this? We are vegetarian and drink/eat a lot of soy. I was raised on it since my mom is from Taiwan. This is worrysome for me since we've always drank a lot of soy milk and I don't do cow or goat milk.

That's so interesting. I stopped drinking soymilk after I noticed that I would break out big time especially on my chin. Big painful suckers too. I limit the amount of soy I take in these days. I wonder if the natural estrogens were messing with my hormones?

I don't have a link, but there's a book called "The Whole Soy Story"...if your library doesn't carry it you can request it through inter-library loan. Definitely worth reading if you eat any soy!
