I'm wondering, because I've been thinking about it alot lately what the
benefits would be if I gave my baby Soy milk instead of whole milk when
we're done breastfeeding? I heard my SIL is going straight to
soy...and I think I might try it too...but I guess I'm old fashioned
and don't see anything wrong with the whole milk? Mainly I think
because that's all I've ever known, was to give the kids the whole milk
in a cup when they're done with the boobs! Any insight on this would
be great...I mean I feel good about my decision to possibly go straight
to soy...but there's this uneasy feeling that soy is too light and
wouldln't fill the boys tummy!! Thanks!

even believe it!

I would not use soy milk for my child. Do some searches in the nutrition forums about soy and I think you'll find some interesting links. Soy has plant-based estrogen in it. Someone in my LLL was discussing soy formula and stated that if a baby was fed all soy formula it was the equivalent of 5 birth control pills daily! I don't have a reference for that.

I know a little soy milk a few times a day is not the same as all soy formula, but it still seems scary to me!

I will probably give my son soymilk after he weans/is a year old (whichever is later), but it would be for ethical reasons.

That seems highly inacurate...I'd love to see a reference for that.

ETA: I never gave my son milk after breastfeeding. He just recently started to drink cow's milk. Even then, he has maybe a glass or two a month.

If you nurse until after two and let your child self wean then they don't *need* any other milk.

That said, for extra milk (only started after she was 2) we use organic cow's.

I gave DD soymilk, she can't seem to tolerate cows milk...so we are a soymilk family...My Ped said there weren't any problems with her having it...And since she didn't like the rice milk much...we werehappy sheliked the soymilk.
