So I have been working with my local school district who has sent the child psychologist out to my home, and after the first meeting she said that she just didn't know if my daughter had enough "symptoms" to be autistic, but she is definatly in need of speach therapy (although I feel she was just agreeing with my PCP), so anyways, she comes back to the house a week later with the school speach therapist. Now, they did no tests or evals or anything, just watched how DD interacted and saw her do her flash cards, and they decided that she doesn't need to be in special ed headstart, but just regular headstart with speach therapy. I expressed my concern with DD's scripting and she WILL NOT sit there while a class full of people sing, she just won't, she will sceam. They said they will deal with that when the time comes: So, a friend of mine called today and she has been doing some studio recordings for an autism foundation or something, and one of the guys said he was looking to help some families out by offering to pay for the child psychologist (like $650) to do an evaluation to test for autism. She said that he would cut the check tomorrow and she was going to get it all set up for me. So I am super excited to be getting a second opinion from someone who specializes in autism and not just a regular doctor or an underpaid public school "psychologist". Just had to share!!!

That's so wonderful! Congrats. ASDs are just so incredibly misunderstood by just about everyone (I've spent the past two years researching them, and I still don't know what to believe) and the school systems are no exception. I'm glad you'll get some better answers.

Thank you I kept feeling like I was getting the run around from everybody, and I just want to see to it that DD gets the kind of care she needs. I'm hoping that all goes well and they do say it is only speech, but up untill this point I have not had anyone tell me anything that I felt came from an educated diagnosis, kwim! Anyways, I'll keep you mama's updated. I don't post here often, but I do lurk
