did me so wrong! I have been taking vitex for about 9 months now due to AF that would last for three weeks in a 38 day cycle. Doctors could not help me and provera made it worse and made me very sick.

Vitex truly saved me. It got me down to a 27/28 day cycle ovulating on day 13/14. I did have some yucky pms'y types of side effects at first such as tender boobs and moodiness, but those have subsided. Vitex has toally been my holy grail.

Well heres to fixing what isnt broken. I had a chemical pregnancy two months ago and started taking maca this last couple weeks to see if it would improve my egg quality.

Let me tell you maca is not for everyone. My cycle was longer (30 days) I was extremely tired, gained about three pounds in two weeks in hips and thighs where I rarely gain, very depressed, late ovulation, terrible AF cramps and profuse flow CD1. I did nothing differently but start maca.

My point is herbs will react so differently for different people. The research out there on bad side effects is I think suspiciously skewed. What can be one persons "answer" will be anothers nightmare.

Anybody else have bad maca side effects?

Yes, there isn't any one substance that is good for everyone. Everyone has a different constitution and will react differently. If there are bad reaction, then listen to your body and your intuition if it is not right for you

Wow, I'm sorry you had to go thru all of that. i wonder how you know for sure it was the maca? It is a food ( almost like a potato) so I don't think it's quite the "herb" you think it might be. It is also virtually impossible to take too much, but like any food that you have never eaten before, can react in your body a certain number of ways.... mostly stomach issues, or gas issues.
I have never heard of it making anyone tired or depressed, it is widely seen as an energy giving food.

Perhaps it's not the maca?
well, b6 delays my ovulation indefinitly until I stop taking it!

Maca gives me headaches for the first few days of taking it, then gives me headaches if I don't take it on time daily. It did help me O earlier though.
i got a slight headache with my maca yesterday... though not completely sure it was a maca as i started another pill yesterday too. Didnt matter though, its far from a painful headache and the energy boost from one (or both) of the pills was worth it.

I was hoping it wasn't the maca but it just had to be. I did/took/ate nothing differently. To be more specific it felt like it gave me a buzz then I crashed and felt very tired. I stopped the maca yesterday and already feel better.

Hi bunziemom

I started taking vitex because of irregular cycles and so happy to hear a good news story about the herb.

Can you tell me what dosage you take as i take 1000mg a day and am now concerned the dosage is too high.
whilethereishope

I take the planetary herbals brand that is 500 mg per tab. I started out taking about three of those a day at first because it takes awhile to get into your system. At nine months of taking this stuff I can get away with one 500 mg tab a day without any return of problems. I want to experiment with completely going off but I am scared!

I saw almost immediate results. My neverending AF stopped right away and my cycle became about 28 days after about two months.

I had to really play with the dosage at first to see what it took to make my neverending AF stop.

I did get some PMS symptoms at first. I had tender breasts and irritability but it sure beat bleeding for weeks straight and having 38 day cycles! These side effects did go away after a few weeks. I also learned to take my pill (s) at night so as to avoid any nausea that they sometimes caused.

Give it a try but in the end only your body will know what works for it. Good Luck!!!
