In the 'alternatives to wool for nighttime' thread a lot of people were saying that they loved their fleece covers. Well, I have an aversion to wool too, and am looking for something really waterproof and comfy. I have a bunch of old Polarbabies fleece covers, they are made with MM fleece and even have a laminate inner, but they wick horribly.
Does fleece just wear out with time? Or is there a special way to take care of them and keep them waterproof that I don't know about?

Sportwash (which can be found in the hunting section with the bug repellant at Walmart) actually helps keep the DWR on the fleece effective. When I wash my fleece, I only wash it in sportwash. According to Malden Mills (the company that makes the fleece used in most diapers), wash warm, rinse cold, dry in the dryer on warm. Those two things should make it stay waterproof a lot longer.
