Hi there,

We are thinking about moving to NJ and were looking for a town/area that has a great reputation for special education/autism services. We've heard Voorhees and Cherry Hill are good. Can anybody comment on those towns or suggest any others?

thanks so much!
Caroline

I don't know about that far south. I know that Brick Twp (Ocean Co.) is supposed to be the autism services mecca (for school district services--Early Intervention is better in the upper half of the state, apparently).

Otherwise, Basking Ridge (Somerset Co.) also has an excellent (albeit hush-hush) program.

Oh, and if you can visit here--you might want to see if you can attend an ASPEN meeting. I used to go to them and was about to look into Elizabeth (Union Co.) for SpEd services--which is truly not somewhere I'd have thought to look. But apparently their system is so big and has so many SpEd kids that they've got it worked out pretty well. I just needed to know the quality of the education.

You should also know that there's a HUGE push on the state's schools to set up services in-house instead of sending them out of district--which I think is abominable.
The goal is to reduce costs.
