Special Inserts vs. Microfiber Towels- any difference?

I've gotten into sewing pocket diapers lately. So far I've just been using prefolds or costco microfiber towels as stuffers, but I was wondering if actual inserts that are sold have any advantages. Are they more absorbant? Trimmer? What's your experience? Thanks!

IME the pocket inserts are thicker and more absorbant than the microfiber towels I have. It may just be that my towels, from Target, are thin. Most inserts are described as 3 layers of microfiber, but they are thicker than my trifolder microfiber towels.
Costco towels are the best. They are thick when folded and absorb more than my cottonbabies inserts. Stick with the trifolded auto towels if you can. Premade microfiber inserts are usually 3 layers thick, but all sewn together so they are impossible to get clean. I had horrid stink with the inserts, but not with my one layer super thick auto towels. Don't "upgrade" if you don't have to!

Do you mean Costco like the warehouse store?
