When your child listens to you or does something good, what is the best way to compliment him/her? or do you?

How about:

"Good job"
"Nicely done"

I also don't want to use "good boy", so I need some ideas.

*Thank you for helping me with .....

*You listened really careful to what I had to say, and that made it easy for me to ....

*How did it feel to do ...? Did it feel good? It feels good to me when I do something extra nice.

*Thank you for listening.

I try to give reallife examples here, but am having some problems translating my words to english sentences that sound normal and not fake/made up.
Hopefully you get the feeling, anyway.

I can see you worked hard on that project. What do you like best about it?

Thank you for helping me put away dishes.

I appreciate your help!

I'm very proud of you. I'm especially pleased with the way you followed directions/listened/helped your sister - [I like to be VERY specific about the behaviors I want to reinforce].

Well Done! How did it make you feel?

Thank you for waiting patiently while I was on the phone.

I noticed that you were playing a game with your brother - it looked like you were having fun. Did you enjoy it?

That's exactly how I would have done it! OR I wouldn't have thought of doing it like that - that was a very creative solution.

For listening:

Thank you for listening...

I'm glad you listened when I said xx, because yyy (e.g, I'm glad you listened when I said stop, because then you were safe crossing the street)

For being helpful:
Thanks, that's helpful.

OR more specific thanks: Thank you, when you help me set the table, that means we can eat dinner faster.

For achievements/creations:

Look at what you did!

Wow, you got all the way to the top!

You're getting better at that, it looks like you've been practicing. (this one is for ds who has a tendency to give up if he can't do it immediately.)

Tell me about that...

I try to be as specific as I can. Ds' latest thing is to color bus schedules (don't ask) - and frankly, after about 30 of them, there's not much new that can be said. But he still proudly shows us each one, and I comment on the colors, or the patterns, or the fact that he highlighted each stop in the route with yellow.. and he's very happy with the feedback.
