It has just gotten cold here, and my baby's lips must be chapped. When she smiled the other day, the bottom one split and started bleeding. The next day, her upper lip split! Ouch!

Thank goodness, it doesn' t seem to bother her, but it looks SO SAD! I tried to put some Vitamin E on it, but the bottom one reopened. Since she is 5 months, I am reluctant to apply much, but I don't want her having scabs all winter!

(I am also going to set up a humidifier in her room tonight.)

Any other suggestions?

So, your baby will be 6 months soon, right? Maybe she's a bit dehydrated and you could give her a sip (or gulp in my baby's case) of water. Just use a regular cup and hold it up for her. My baby started drinking water at 5 months.

Breastmilk works wonders! Even though she is breastfed, with a good latch, she is probably not getting much on the outside of her mouth. Express a little and dab it on her lips a few times a day. Works great for cuts/scrapes, too!
My midwife swears by cow's colostrum. She found it at a healthfood store.
