what have you done that you are most proud of, but usually don't talk about?

Hi, everyone! I haven't been posting much lately--life has been crazy around here and I don't have easy access to a computer at home at the moment. I do most of my MDC-ing on my iphone, which is just not conducive to a lot of typing. In fact, I just popped over here resolving to actually post or respond to something and saw this, wow, did November ever come quickly! I have a few minutes left on my lunch hour (I WOH) so here goes...

what are you craving today?
a nap!

how are you feeling today?
Tired. Didn't sleep again last night--one my dogs woke me up (to snuggle!) at 3 and I just cannot fall back asleep easily. I was up for two and a half hours. This happens like five nights a week, sadly.

if somebody gave you 1000 dollars to spend on yourself what would you buy?
A laptop!

what is your guilty pleasure at the moment?
Junk food--like stuff I would normally not eat, such as boxed mac & cheese.

Why did you join MDC?
I discovered it rather late in the game, when my DD was about 18 months old. I loved the philosophy, for lack of a better word, and I lurked for a few months then signed up.

Do you have other kids?
Yes--one DD, aged 3.

Do you have pets?
Yes--two Jack Russell terriers. They are my first babies and I love them dearly, but I wish they would let me sleep occasionally.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Gosh, I'm not at all in the mood to travel right now. In fact, it sounds horrendous, just all of the logistics of it, packing, the actual traveling, etc. I haven't done much traveling at all since DD was born save for one business trip.

what have you done that you are most proud of, but usually don't talk about?
Definitely that would be nursing my DD as long as I have and especially for having got through those first difficult weeks of not trusting myself (she is still nursing but I think she might be weaning...it's been a couple of days since she's asked, and I don't know how to feel about that yet ). I talk about it here, of course, but IRL not at all.

It's an herb. I'm really bad at thinking up clever usernames, so I grabbed the nearest book to me when I signed up. It happened to be an herbal so there you go.

it's cold now. I live in Michigan. I'm here because my parents moved (back) here when I was in college and I lost my in-state tuition at the school I was in. So I came home with them and finished college here and just stayed. We'd lived here for a few years when I was in middle school, so of all the places I've lived, Michigan feels the most like home. My DH and I actually bought a house in the same small town in which my family had lived. My kids will likely go to the same school I did.

How have you found the experience of nursing while pregnant? What kind of work do you do?

I pretty much detest nursing during pregnancy, much to my dismay. It HURTS. I feel terrible because my daughter can tell that it hurts me--sometimes I gasp involuntarily, for example--and she is uber-sensitive and I fear she feels responsible, like she is doing something wrong. If I so much as ask her to be gentle she will pout and refuse to nurse at all. She is always asking me if nanas hurt. I wish I were handling it better. Now she is down to once every couple of days, even skipping a few days here and there. I expect my milk to dry up soon (I'm just about 17 weeks) and I wonder how that will affect her. I told her that the milk would be changing (i.e. to colostrum) and she was not happy about that. She just wants the "white milk!"

I work for a publishing company. I've been here for about ten years.

My first birth was a pitocin augmented hospital nightmare. I went in when my water broke, but I was not having contractions. They hooked up the pit as soon as I walked in the door and just kept on cranking it up. I took the epidural. Most of it is a haze; I was really out of it due to the painkillers. Then I had a manual placenta extraction. Good times. 14 hours of labor.

This time I'm seeing a midwife and will be delivering in a hospital based ABC. No meds.
