If you could make a living doing something unconventional, (like say, sleeping or eating ice cream???), what might you choose?

I'm going to repeat a question, 'cause I liked it...What is something about your own upbringing that you'd like to make sure your children also experience, and is there anything you'd like to change for your own kids from the way you were raised?

You have an all-expense paid trip for your family plus a highly qualified, trustworthy childcare worker to anywhere in the world, with the catch being you have to stay in that one place. Where do you go, and what do you do there? How long do you stay?

What's your least favorite food?

Heelllloooo, Traci!

Are you close with your parents/family members? Do they support your parenting choices?

What are you passionate about?

How long is your oldest friendship? Do you live near him/her?

What's one quirky thing that you really like? (Like the satisfaction of cleaning out your purse, peeling a hardboiled egg, etc) *How's THAT for an odd question!
*

Did you go to college? If so, what did you major in?

When's your favorite time of year?

The last time we went to visit my parents, my dh and I snuck away and saw "The Breakup"

I'm sure my/our parenting style will change as the kiddos get older, but right now, it's just pretty fun. We teach him to behave, use manners, be nice, etc. But he is just like a little sponge and it is amazing to watch him learn new things every day. We don't want to limit that.

Did you play a sport as a kid? I danced from the time I was 3. I also played a little soccer when I was very young.

What is your idea of a "dream date"? I'm not about lots of frills, etc. but a night with my dh shopping, eating out, or sight-seeing is just fine. We try to take a few trips a year as a family and we have an amazing time.

Thanks!

These are great questions.

I would probably like to eating watermelon or shopping.

My parents were pretty "freedom of choice" type people. There were certain standards that were in place from a very early age, but my brother and I were/are allowed to be who we really are. And that took some trial and error. I knew that no matter what, I had a support system and a soft place to go home to. I hope my children have the same security. For example (a major example) my dh and I are of different ethnicities. Although, it took some time and some education and a lot of prayer, my entire family and extended family accepted him as one of "the family".
I am the baby of two children and my brother is almost 8 years older. I was basically rasied as an only child past the age of 10 and looking back, I acted like an adult way too early. I didn't do lots or "kid things" because I spent most of my time with my parents. I want my kids to be kids as long as possible - it goes way to quick.

I would go somewhere in Mexico. I love the beach and anything in the water. I would eat and dance and lay on the beach and relax. I would stay for 3-4 days because I am always ready to come home in about 3 days.

My entire family, extended family too, are very close. Everyone's very supportive and helpful. My brother, cousins, and I are averaging a baby a year for the last 6 years so we exchange information, etc.

I am passionate about freedom of speech - I don't agree with many things that people say, but I don't want anyone limiting what I can or cannot say. I am also passionate about the belief that people can change against all odds. I work in juvenile corrections and I see it. Kids/teens with everything against them, make the choice to be successful.

My oldest friendship is 12 years. She lives about 2 hours away. We were college roommates and had everything in common, but now I am married with a child and one on the way. My friend is single and travelling, etc. Although, our lives are very different, we manage to find common ground and support each other. I see her 3-4 times a year and we text message and talk on the phone often.

I love having all of the laundry done. It doesn't last long, but it's great while it lasts.

I majored in Criminal Justice and Psychology and then went back for a Master's in Counseling.

My favorite time of the year is Fall and Spring when the weather is perfect (in Texas) and the leaves and plants are changing. I love working in the yard and that's the perfect time for gardening.

Hi Traci!

It is nice to know you! I am fascinated by your work and that you went back to school for counseling, you must be an excellent fit for your job. How lucky the children must be to work with you.

Do you find your work difficult and do you get burnout seeing some children make the wrong decisions? Tell us more about your important work.

Ok, my usual question for everyone...what was the first tape/record/cd/8track that you bought with your own money?

Tell us your birth story, if you would like.

Take care, Paige

My husband and I met at work. I was the Associate Psychologist for his dorm and he was the dorm supervisor. It was instant attraction and we began dating. He soon transferred to another law enforcement agency. We married a year later.

We ate salad and watermelon. My son has a sore throat, so he had 3, yes 3, popsicles.

I like iced tea but am not drinking it while I'm pg. Not a coffee drinker.

I have to take my glasses off and put in my contacts. Then, I drink a glass of water. My favorite mornings are when I'm the first one up. It is nice to have a few minutes in a quiet house when everyone else is resting. Of course, I love the mornings when my son comes and crawls in the bed with us to wake us up, too.

I work in the juvenile prison system as the Mental Health Treatment Program Director. It works because my hours are flexible, I live just 2 minutes from work, and I am able to work from home some. Like, this week, my son isn't feeling well, so I worked 2 1/2 days and have been working from home a few hours a day (while he naps) the rest of the week. To commit to my type of work, you have to be willing to be on 24 hour call and we have adjusted to it. I rarely have to leave home at odd hours, but I do have to be available by phone and pager.

I am studying for a National Counselor certification, so I am in the process of reading the 800-page study guide. I also pulled out all my pg. books from my first pg. I refer to them often. I can't believe there's so much I've forgotten in just 3 years!

I like to watch the news for a few minutes each morning - mostly jsut to see the weather.

My son is hilarious! He makes me laugh out loud with some of the things he says. He's a funny little boy.

I do find it difficult and stressful at times, but it's a great fit for me and I can't imagine doing anything else at this point. I have been with my agency in several capacities for 6 years. I started straight out of college and was very naive. I thought I could "save" them all. That creates burnout and disappointments. But then, I matured a little and realized that everyone has to make their own choices, etc. I have learned separation and even though I deal with people, it is a business and I try not to "bring it home".

Oh, how embarassing! Vanilla Ice was the first tape I bought. Then, anything, New Kids on the Block. I was convinced I would marry one of them.

I don't mind sharing my brith story - I mentioned it once before and it sparked some pretty judgemental comments. My intention is not to offend anyone, but it is what it is. It is my experience.
I had an induced labor - it was planned as soon as the baby was developed and it was safe for him. The day before my planned induction, my bp spiked and my ankles began to swell, so the Dr. said he would have had to induce anyway. I was given pitocin at 6am and labored quickly for four hours. Then, I asked for an epidural. I pushed for about an hour and then, Hayden's heart rate dropped, he was pulled out with forceps at 6pm. He had the cord around his neck two times. We both recovered and he is perfect!

A few more questions for you

How did you find Mothering/MDC?

Do you have any pets?

Describe your favorite maternity outfit these days.

Do you consider yourself spiritual?

What are three words that describe you?

I did a search for a Due Date Club and found it that way.

We have one cat. I got her in college from a shelter, Joey (Josephine), and she is 8 years old.

Capri pants and a cute shirt I bought a Target. It gathers right under the bust line, so it doesn't touch my belly.

I do consider myself to be spiritual. I am a Christian and do not subscribe to a specific denomination, but have gone to a Bible Church for years. I was raised Baptist. I also practice Yoga, which definately has spiritual elements.

Loyal, Reserved, Honest.

All great questions!

Traci, I had an induced labor as well, a week early, and my OB and I discussed it and decided on the date because I was suffering from an incredibly itchy horrible rash called PUPPP, and also I had the swelling and high bp. My water actually broke two days before the scheduled induction, but then I had to have Pitocin anyway because I didn't go into active labor in over twelve hours on my own. The itchy rash was the worst thing I've ever experienced, but I think it has allowed me to have more empathy for my poor eczema boy! I feel like every woman goes through her own childbirth experience, and it shouldn't be a point of judgement. I hope this birth will be exactly the way you dream of, whatever that may be!

Thank you for your comments. We also battled eczema the first year of my son's life. Thank goodness, he seems to have grown out of it. I hope this our new little ones don't have to go through it. You know how miserable it can be!Thanks, again, for your kind words.
