Spotlight on LJ's Momma!!!!

To YOUR Spotlight!!!

I hope you have a lot of fun with this! You deserve it (especially since you set up all these lovely spotlights for the rest of us)!!

So, here are some questions to get you started:

* Do you like to read?
* What is on your night stand/reading table right now?
* Do you like to read to your DC?
* What is your favorite book to read to/with your DC?
* What is your DC's favorite outfit and why?
* If you could have one (or more) superpower(s), what would it be?
* Do you like to dance? Do you like to dance by yourself or with others or both?
* What is your favorite trait of your DH?
* If you could travel anywhere you wanted tomorrow, where would you go?
* Please tell us about your favorite musical artists.
* What self-care ritual have you discovered since having DC? What about since being married?
* When you were a little girl what did you want to be when you grew up?

Hope this is terrific fun for you!!!

Best, Sugarlumpkin

P.S. Sorry I did not make the title more eye-catching!

* Do you like to read?
I love to read, and even "love" is an understatement. I haven't gotten much reading done since DS was born though, but it has been getting a tiny bit easier... so I am ready for the free and amazing journeys that reading always takes me.

* What is on your night stand/reading table right now?
1-Words of Fire, An Anthology of African-American Feminist Thought
2-Simulacra and Simulations by Jean Baudrillard
3-I Love Myself by Zora Neale Hurston

* Do you like to read to your DC?
I love it, and now he likes to try and read to himself. I am so happy... I hope that he always loves it.

* What is your favorite book to read to/with your DC?
Elmo's bedtime stories... especially the story about the Lullabye, I mean a Foolafly
(that is what Elmo says)... I also like Neighborhood Animals by Baby Einstein

* What is your DC's favorite outfit and why?
DS seems to like the color of his Oscar the Grouch jacket.. it is almost a lime green. He is only 12.5 months, but he always points to it. Unfortunately it is fleece... So, I bought a lime green short sleeved shirt, and he seems to like that too...

* If you could have one (or more) superpower(s), what would it be?
The power to freeze time... So that I could savor each moment with DS and DH just a bit longer, and too steal some sleep when I am really tired. More sleep would allow me to exercise my super duper patience power

* Do you like to dance? Do you like to dance by yourself or with others or both?
I like to dance alone. When I was in college, I liked to dance and show off, but now I just like to dance alone in my home and/or with DS. DH joins in, but I just laugh and half dance after that

* What is your favorite trait of your DH?
Arrogantly, I love the fact that he thinks that I am brilliant... most of the time

* If you could travel anywhere you wanted tomorrow, where would you go?
I would go to

* Please tell us about your favorite musical artists.
I love Lauryn Hill: she is just brilliantly beautiful, Stevie Wonder: inexplainably brilliant, Common Sense: so friggin intelligently awesome, Aerosmith: specifically because I love the song: "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing", Pitbull: his crazy music speaks to my alter ego that only came out when I was driving home from a rough day at work (before DS), Alanis Morrisette: she was so much fun to listen to in High School, Smokie Norful: he has such a peaceful and beautiful voice and his music speaks to your heart, and Mary Mary: I like their dance type gospel music.

* What self-care ritual have you discovered since having DC? What about since being married?
LOL!!! LOL!!!
... My self care technique has been distructive. I stay up late for alone time with me, and end up extra tired when DS wakes up in the morning... so, so far... nothing that works. I am working on it.

* When you were a little girl what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a poet, an attorney, a pianist, and a playwright. My mom encouraged this in me, and told me that I could do them all
... Moms are awesome...

Hope this is terrific fun for you!!!

How cool that you are a music-loving, book-loving, dancing mama!

I hope some others ask you some more questions or else I will have to.

So, where WOULD you travel if you could? (I think you forgot to answer it in your response.)

Ya know... I couldn't decide. I think that I would love to travel to some part of Africa or Haiti.

The day that I met DS. The Day that I met DH. Today, because I am alive and with my family.

2) What were the 3 worst?
I have to get back to you on that...

3) How often do you change your sheets?
I try to change them weekly... I hope that this is not too gross... but if so, let me know what is gross about it.

4) Are there any animals that scare you?
I don't like strange, unattended dogs walking without their owners (and off a leash). Snakes, but they don't answer to "sit" or "stay."

5) Do you sew?
No, but my mom has been a seamstress for 28 years. If you were to ask my mother the same question about me, she would say "yes."

* What in your life are you most proud of?
I am most proud of finishing Undergrad, and finally starting Graduate school. I am also VERY proud of surviving the first year of being a mom... it was so much fun, but I was so worn out. I am learning finally balance, I am not quite there yet, but it is moving in the right direction. I am so in love with my new DS... he is such a blessing.

* What one person - past or present - would you have tea with and why?
My Uncle "Boot," because he made such an impression on my mom, her siblings, and their children. He was so supportive and consistently loving to all of us. He had a way of providing guidance without feeling imposing (which is important for a teen). He also always made us feel that he was so proud of us, regardless of what we were doing... he was such a HUGE self-esteem booster in my life... He passed away while I was in college... He was awesome, and definately missed.

I would want to have tea with him and introduce him to DH and DS. I wasn't sure if I wanted to introduce DH to my family before my uncle passed away, because we just met... but now, I wish that I had let him meet my uncle... he would have been floored at how awesome my uncle was.

* If you could travel anywhere in the world next week, where would it be?
I would travel to either Miami, FL so that DS could meet his GGM (great grandmother) or to Haiti to visit DS's other GGM (both paternal).

* What is your favourite fruit?
Cantaloupe

* What is your favourite tree?
I dunno... maybe a Peach tree

* What, if anything, do you regret?
I regret not enrolling in Graduate school immediately after Undergraduate graduation

* What is your happiest childhood memory?
My happiest childhood memories were all at Sesame Place in PA... I loved to get on all of the rides and get into Big Bird's rambling river... Sesame Place is still my favorite theme park
