How did you find MDC?

I don't remember. I lurked here for a bit before signing up as a member. I was very active on a more mainstream board and I got SOOOOOOO tired of the same attitudes that it was a wonderful, restful difference to read these boards.

What is a lacto-ovo vegetarian?

I do not eat meat but I do eat dairy and eggs (and honey, which is also an animal product).

How many children would you like to have?

I would like to have 3 children. Probably will have 2, but maybe I can convince my DH to go for three...we will see... :smile

Do you vacation? What was your most amazing vacation like?

Most amazing vacation was probably our honeymoon. We went to Chile for 2 weeks. We went on a small cruise boat (like 160 people) to see glaciers. We camped one night. We stayed in a lovely hotel, we stayed in cheap hotels. We hiked, we drank wine, we flipped a car over (no injuries to anyone). It was great! I've been back to Chile since and it was not as much fun without my DH, though Chile is a beautiful country (too bad the food is so boring).

If you could vacation anywhere, regardless of the price, where would you go?

I'd like to go back to South Africa. I'd like to go to Hawaii. I'd like to go to Bali. I want to go to India and Iceland and Brazil and, well you get the point I think. :smile

Based on what your DS enjoys now, what would you say that he would do as an adult?

Uhm...taste tester of some type??? hehehe Maybe an art critic? He loves to look at photos/paintings/art in general. Sometimes he comments--other times he just really looks at it. You can almost see his brain working as he observes. So much fun to carry him up to art so he can have a look!

What self-care activity have you discovered works best for you, since DS was born?

Self-care? What's that? I am sort of but not really joking. I have been neglecting myself a lot since my son was born and I have gotten quite sick as a result. I have pneumonia and have probably had it for over 2 months at this point. I am being treated by a physician, but I am also studying for the bar, so I hope that my stressful time right now does not make me sicker...so far it is ok.

How about since you got married?

Hmmmmm...nothing is coming to mind...Gosh, maybe I should change this...

What is your favorite color?

Sapphire blue/cobalt blue.
I asked for, and received a sapphire engagement ring. Side note: My husband asked for, but did not receive, a kayak. I was really going to buy him one but well I just never got around to it--at least, not yet.

Who is your favorite author?

Oh dear there are so many! I am currently reading (when nursing) Briefing For A Descent Into Hell by Doris Lessing. I've read it before, a few years ago and loaned it to my mother so she could read it. She finished it and loaned it to my dad, who read it and then loaned it to my brother, so my whole family read it.

Do you like Lauryn Hill?

Yes! Especially "Tell Him."

Luther Vandross?

Not enough to buy a CD, but don't hate him.

Common Sense?

No idea.

Aerosmith?

Not enough to buy a CD but I can sing along to several of their songs.

Oasis?

No idea.

Here are some questions for you -

* What in your life are you most proud of?

I am proud of many things in my life. I guess most recently I am very very proud of the birth of my son. I wanted a home birth so much and then developed pre-eclampsia and had to go get induced (at 39 weeks) at the hospital. I still had a wonderful birth. I was able to experience labor with the strength of my mind and trust in the suport of my amazing husband--so in other words, without an epidural or any other type of analgesic drug. I am still impressed with myself and with the whole experience. I hope I get to have another baby so I can have a homebirth.

* What one person - past or present - would you have tea with and why?

My friend Alanna who lives in Tennessee. I miss her and we never get to hang out. I would love to have a chance to sit down with her and laugh and eat and talk. Oh golly that would be nice.

* If you could travel anywhere in the world next week, where would it be?

Well, only if I could take my son and I knew he would not suffer from the trip. I'd go to Bali because my husband went there once and he said it was great. I'd like to go there with him this time.

* What is your favourite fruit?

CHERRIES!!!!!!!!!!

* What is your favourite tree?

I like dogwoods. I like magnolias. I like maples. Maybe dogwoods are my favorite. I also like weeping cherry trees.

* What, if anything, do you regret?

Not making better grades in law school.

* What is your happiest childhood memory?

I don't remember much happy stuff. Maybe that means I am just tragic, but I remember the bad events. The good stuff all blends together and no one happy event stands out.

Why is that?

Has it prevented you from getting the job(s) of your dreams? I, too, went to law school and am an attorney.

Are you a practicing atty? What area? My DH just graduated from law school and I REGRET HE DIDN'T GET BETTER GRADES!!!!

I would love to clerk for a judge but with my grades, well, there's no chance I think. It used to be that clerking for a judge was for those students who did not get the best grades--now those spots are always awarded to those in the top 10%.

I am not an attorney yet. I am taking the bar in July. I am studying for the bar now. I'm pretty worried about it--my sweetheart little baby does not allow me to study as much as I would like...

My DH used to threaten to go to law school because he thought it sounded like fun.
Now he doesn't anymore.

My first job straight out of law school was clerking for a state supreme court justice. I LOVED IT - IT WAS THE BEST JOB ! EVER!!!!!!

You can often find a clerkship for a superior/lower court judge pretty easily - at least you can here that is. I'd love for my DH to clerk for an appellate court justice - it's an INCREDIBLE thing to do! You're right, they're hard to get. It's often all about being in the right place at the right time.

My DH is taking the Bar this summer - which Bar are you sitting? Our sweet little darlings are making it fairly difficult for him, too! Although we had 2 kiddos when I sat it...just not tiny babies!

I'm doing the Maryland bar. Wheeeee....I'm only up now bc I am trying to wind down from class enough to go to sleep.

My (5 and a half month old) son is so much fun right now. He's getting 2 teeth at once (bottom incisors) and loves to play and interact with me. I basically can only study when he naps. Fortunately he does nap well. :smile

I have to pump at class, which is basically a big bummer. But, I'm dealing with it and learning.

This coming Saturday is our first practice test. So, I will be writing essays all day (leave at 7:30 and get home about 5:00 or so) on Saturday. More pumping. More time away from my husband and baby. Oh well, I guess that when I am being sworn in it will be worth it but right now it seems such a pain.

Any advice about being in the right place at the right time to land one a clerkship?

What is your practice area? Where do you practice?
