Ok I knew I would forget to do this earlier today.
Questions:

I seen on your profile and understand that you are a Doula and that this is your first child, Is that right?

Are you going to use a Doula your self?

Do you think being a Doula is going to help you be more calm and relaxed?

Are you and your husband excited about doing a homebirth?

Do you plan having any one at your birth besides your husband?

If I'm getting to personal in the questions you can just tell us all something about your self -hobbies, fav. movies and food, etc.

Thanks,
Yes, I'm a doula, and this is our first kiddo....very excited!

Are you going to use a Doula your self?
I'm not sure about this...I don't think so. I have a great midwife, who has two apprentices who will be a the birth, too, so there will be a lot of support already.

Do you think being a Doula is going to help you be more calm and relaxed?
Well, that's hard to say! I have seen quite a few births, and I'm definitely not going into any of this with fear or worry or not knowing how things happen. I guess that alone makes me more calm and relaxed, but how do you ever know what a birth will be like? I just hope I remember all my "tricks" and follow the advice I always give to other mamas!
Are you and your husband excited about doing a homebirth?
Yes! We wouldn't do it any other way. My mother was a homebirth midwife when I was growing up, and in our household, homebirth was the norm, and I'm glad I grew up in that environment.
Do you plan having any one at your birth besides your husband?
Aside from the midwife and her apprentices, probably not. We're not sure, yet though. I think we are both envisioning it as a pretty private event. We're blessed to have a very hands off midwife, who won't have a problem staying in the other room and leaving us alone until/if we need her.
If I'm getting to personal in the questions you can just tell us all something about your self -hobbies, fav. movies and food, etc.
Oh, definitely not too personal, don't worry!
Thanks for the good questions!

Hi, I love your screen name.

OK, let's see....

Is there anything about being pregnant that is different from how you envisioned it?

Will you continue to be an active doula after babe or not sure yet?

I'm sure there are more questions to ask but my tired pregnant brain is drawing a complete blank.

What setting do you plan (or have envisioned) for your homebirth?
I am planning on being outside as much as possible, even giving birth outside if the weather is not too hot/buggy/rainy/etc. We have a really nice big pond in our backyard, and during early labor, I plan to be swimming around in it a lot. We will also be setting up a little birthing nest on one of our summer sleeping porches.
What color do you find to be most soothing?
Hmm, no particular color....the combined colors in nature, like the wash of green on the hills when the trees are first starting to bud out, or all the bright colors of a garden in full bloom in the summer.

What's your favorite comfort food?
I don't really have one....soups of pretty much all kinds. I really love pie, too, especially fresh berry pies in the summer!

What is one question you hope no one will ask you during your pregnancy?
I'm hoping my in-laws won't get too nosy about our choices regarding cosleeping, not vaxing, etc. I don't really mind any questions, but I do not like having to defend my choices.

Nice to meet you!!
Thanks!

Hi, I love your screen name.
Thanks....I am so eager to start picking wild nettles this spring!

Is there anything about being pregnant that is different from how you envisioned it?
Pretty much everything!! I always thought I would be one of those glowing, energetic pregnant women, just loving every moment of pregnancy, feeling so in tune with life and my babe and my husband....but, it hasn't been quite like that. I have wanted to start a family for so long, I think I really romanticized my idea of what it would actually be like to be pregnant. I am enjoying it for sure, but I am more tired and stressed than I ever thought I would be. And I thought I'd start getting more energy during the 2nd tri., but as I get closer to the beginning of the 3rd (next week I think...I don't even know what week I'm at anymore! ), I am feeling a LOT more energy and creativity.

Will you continue to be an active doula after babe or not sure yet?
If I do, it will be very laid back, not many births at all. Maybe just for friends, I'm not sure. Probably just enough to get my birth junkie fix! I definitely won't be going back to it right away.

Have to repeat the toilet paper question. (I'm going to use the spotlights as an informal polling of TP preferences )

When you put a new roll on, does the tail have to come over the top, or out from under? Or are you indifferent?

Did you grow up in a rural area, small town or big city?

Of these, what's your ideal for your adult life and for raising your child(ren)?

Tell us a movie that you've seen more than once, and even so, if it came on TV and you flipped past it, you'd pour a drink, get a snack and sit down and watch it again anyway.

If you were going to go to the library today what section would pick a book from?

What is your favorite birth/pregnancy book?
Gosh, I have a lot of favorites. I recommend Birthing From Within to all my doula clients...I think it is a wonderful book. SPiritual Midwifery is a great classic, too.

DO you have any pets?
We have three huge dogs, two cats (but they're barn cats, so they're not really pets), and right now there's about 100 baby birds living under heat lamps in our laundry room! Baby chicks, some are meat birds and some are laying hens, ducklings, goslings, and baby turkeys. We just relocated and I am so glad to be collecting farm animals again.

What is your favorite food of all time? During pregnany(just got done reading the cravings thread, so food is on my mind LOL)?
I have such a hard time picking favorite foods. I get in phases where Thai is my favorite, or soups, or a particular fruit or veggie. Highest on my list is any kind of FRESH fruit or veggie, right from the tree or garden; and that's actually the kind of stuff I have been craving while pregnant, too bad the produce options in the winter are so sad.

Was it hard to convince your hubby about homebirthing, or was he pretty in tune with it all?Nope, not hard at all. He's pretty much on the same page as me. I really wanted to do a UC, but he wasn't all that comfortable with that idea. I'm hoping after this one he'll realize we can probably do it on our own next time.

Do you have any worries about having a baby? Pretty normal ones, I think. LIke, am I going to be a good enough mother? Will our marriage be okay (we got pregnant about 2 weeks after we got married!)? Etc, etc. I'm not worried about the birth part, or actually having a baby in my life....excitement and gratitude far outweigh any worries there.

What do you look forward to the most about having a baby?So much! SHaring the world with a child, experiencing motherhood for myself, holding and nursing and snuggling a beautiful baby and knowing that DH's and my love created a new life, teaching a child about the beauty of the world, watching a new life unfold....there's a lot to look forward to.

When you put a new roll on, does the tail have to come over the top, or out from under? Or are you indifferent?Totally indifferent. MOst of the time it's not even on the little holder, anyway, just sitting on the counter, guess that's easier!

Did you grow up in a rural area, small town or big city?Quite rural, on a small farm. When I was a kid, it was a BIG DEAL to drive 20 minutes to "town" once a month or so, and "town" was/is pretty darn small, itself.

Of these, what's your ideal for your adult life and for raising your child(ren)?Rural, for sure. I wish I could move back to the farm I grew up on, but life has other plans for us right now. We now live in a fairly rural area, and just bought a small farm of our own---we're working on rebuilding our animal flocks this spring and will be growing herbs and veggies for market this summer. It is important to me to raise my children close to the Earth.

Tell us a movie that you've seen more than once, and even so, if it came on TV and you flipped past it, you'd pour a drink, get a snack and sit down and watch it again anyway. That's a hard one. We haven't watched a movie in a LONG time, and probably won't have time to for a while, but let's see.....I think my favorite, and one I've seen a few times is "The Secret of Roan Inish", it's a small, independent film about selkies (part seal, part woman) and the magic of this small island, Roan Inish, off the coast of Ireland.

If you were going to go to the library today what section would pick a book from?Well, I actually did go to the library today! And I got a couple gardening books and a couple fiction books. I actually got a cheesy mystery...I have always scoffed at paperback mysteries, but when I had morning sickness and wasn't doing too much, my dad sent me a box of old books, and I got hooked on this series by a guy from Vermont (where I'm from) named Archer Mayor. They're pretty lame, honestly, but fun and quick to read.

What is station is your car radio set to?
We got XM satellite radio for an Xmas gift, so I am lucky. I typically listen to the bluegrass station, or there's an Americana station that I like a lot, too.

Yeah, I miss it like crazy. We're in western NY now, after having spent 7 years in Montana, someday I'll get back to VT....
