I finally, finally successfully sprouted something without it getting moldy! After trying numerous sprouting apparati (regular mason jar with screen lid, motorized sprouting system, cup, etc.) I got a new sprouter from Frontier on a whim. Well, lo and behold. I sprouted a cup of Kamut with no problems. It is now in the dehydrator so I can make some flour and I have a second cup sprouting.

I am just so excited. I am the person who kills plants by looking at them. The only successful thing I planted was a couple of hardy perennials outside. I kill all houseplants immediately and have no success with food.

This is just awesome.

What model of sprouter did you get? I currently use the jar method and it's ok, but I do sometimes look at different sprouters and wonder if they'd do a better job.

Congratulations!! I'm relatively new to TF, so I haven't tried my hand at sprouting yet. I am fermenting some ginger carrots from NT right now, though :)

have you tried a glass jar (a former jam jar or condiment jar ) with a bit of muslin held up with an elastic band ?

it is really the easiers and simplest method (turn upside down to drain the water after it sat there for about 12 hours, add some more water under the tap, drain, repeat twice, then wait another 12 hours to rince and drain a couple of times etc... never had any mould with it)

have you tried sprouting lentils ? it's one of my favorite snacks when about 1/3 of a inch high (+ different colours of lentils have different taste)

This is my first try at multi-quoting in the new forum, but I don't think it worked. I used the EasySprout. I got it from Frontier. It is working like a charm. It is plastic, but it works, so I am overlooking it. I should have gotten more than 1 so I could get more sprouts at a time! This does a cup to 1 1/3 cup at a time.

I have tried all other contraptions, and they all got moldy. This one works so I am sticking with it. I am trying to sprout my grains then dehydrate for flour. It's going to be awhile before I get to lentils....
