K ...

The story goes like this ... I bought a stretch wool a while back when they first came out ... size small for the new baby ... it arrived ...looked nice ...so I put it away with the rest of the baby's growing stash. Well the other day a CD using friend of mine who's also expecting came over and we were checking out what I've got so far. I pulled out the cover and realized that it's really huge ...so in an attempt to prove to myself that it's really a small I tried it on my almost 30lb 2 3/4 year old dd ... and IT FIT!!! Not only did it fit but it fit on the tightest waist snap and the middle leg snap. She's been wearing it to bed ever since (over a FCB 2) and it's working great.

My question is for anyone else who has bought one ... do the smalls actually fit small baby's? Should I look for a NB cover? DD has thinned out quite a bit so I'm not sure it it fits because it's BIG or because she's thin? Oddly enough the rise is long enough too (even over a FCB which isn't exactly a low rise diaper).

I don't know about the small size but I ordered a large for my 22 lb 9 month old and it is HUGE on him. Barely fits on the smallest snap setting. I only use it when our other covers are being lanolized or cleaned. It's a nice cover but it's just so big on my son.

I dipdyed it with KoolAid the other day (looks cute ) and actually tried to shrink it some!

If I were to order again, I'd get a medium or maybe even a small. Probably a medium though because my son needs about a 17-18" rise in a cover.

So do you think we're supposed to felt them to get them to the 'right' size? Can they even be felted?

Anyone tried washing theirs on HOT? Do they felt up/shrink?

I really like this cover ... I just want it to work for someone small (as in the 8-10lb range).

I don't think we're "supposed" to felt them. I don't know if they can be felted, although mine did shrink up a bit when I dyed it (microwave with KoolAid). Not enough though.

The covers are so soft and stretchy. I just wish it fit him better. Perhaps they are supposed to be big?

Going to watch this thread for ideas.....

I emailed Stacy ... though it being the holidays I don't expect a quick answer ... we'll see what she has to say about the sizing and felting.

Thanks for emailing her Would you let me know what she says? If she has any tips on shrinking them, I'd love to know! Since mine is allready dyed, I won't be returning it!

Where did you all buy them???? I want one for the little pea on the way, and am going to follow this thread in hopes of deciding on a size. I don't know who carries them, either.

I received a reply to my inquiry this afternoon from Linda (who now not only own happy heinys but stacinator as well ...CONGRATULATIONS LINDA!!!)

"Regarding sizing, there may have been some sizing errors on some of the previous covers. We received a batch marked small that were actually med. and this may be the size difference you have noticed.
The sizing on all of the covers should correspond with diaper sizes. For example, a small diaper would use a small cover, med a med cover and so on. This is true for all of the various covers available.
We cut the diapers with room for some shrinkage but we do not recommend felting the covers. We have found and with our discussions with the wool manufacturer this really is not needed for most wool materials although it is a favorite thing for many wahms to do. If you opt to felt the cover it will most likely be too small. Unless of course you received a large and need a small. The newborn ones really do fit better for the smaller babies. I have personally found that most smalls do not fit well at all over the first few weeks. Mostly because of the newborn "chicken legs" that most babies have. Our newborn covers take this into account."
