DD will be 18 months at Christmas time and I can't settle on what to get her. (I'm changing my mind several times a day.) I like these wooden stacking boxes, but they say that they are for ages 3+. I am equally fond of this stacking rainbow. We can't afford both, it will be one or the other. I was wondering if anyone had experience with either/both of these toys (the big or small versions)? What age was your child when you purchased them? Do they still enjoy playing with them at their current age? What sort of things do they use them for? I'm really torn here and could use some insight...

Or do I just buy her a nice stroller like this for the doll she's getting from my sister? I told you I'm having problems making decisions. Please help me make a choice and stick to it. I shouldn't be expending so much energy on a Christmas gift decision!

Those are all great ideas. We gave our dds the stacking rainbow last year for xmas, and while it does look very beautiful on the shelf (truly!), I can't claim that it sees all that much play. Then again, my kids are atypical when it comes to playing with toys, so I shouldn't say anything!

I will say that most 18mo children absolutely love pushing strollers, carts, etc. She might be very thrilled with a stroller for her new doll, as long as your home/living space are large enough and you have somewhere to keep it.

We have the stacking tunnel. It is so beautiful and makes me so happy, but the boys don't play with it a lot. I think they might use it once a month. WHen they do play with it, it is quite creative and cool.

The nice thing about the boxes is that they can be used for a few things. My boys loved the cardboard kind of stacking boxes. THey are still used, but there were more of them and much lighter. These beautiful once actually seem a little more limited.

My boys, ages 3.5 and 6.5 still use our garage sale find bitty baby stroller. Of course often it is a monster truck, but it is still being used. We live in a small apartment, but they find space for it.

I pick the stroller.

Well, we have all three of these toys! Okay, our stroller is just a cheapy one my mom got at the family dollar for $7 b/c I was ranting about not being able to find one that wasn't pink and I wanted to not partake in the gender stereotyping in children's toys (this one is purple leopard, but not pink!), but the other two, for sure.

At that age (actually one yo), we went with the nesting boxes first. They are very fond of putting things in and out at that age. They are more multi-purpose than the rainbow. They still get used for drums, cups, pots, garages, barns, etc. DS will be 3 right before xmas.

Last year I couldn't decide which size rainbow to get. And I wanted a stacker, so it was get the med rainbow and a stacker or the xl rainbow. But then someone suggested the double stacking rainbow, which is actually two medium rainbows that are drilled to stack. At 2 this was a much better gift, but it didn't really start getting used until 2.5.

Now, I would also say that the prices at Wooden Wagon are a little high, and I would shop around a little. Here are the hits at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=12586713...%20holz&page=1 I shop through a co op, so we're already ordered up for this year. Once you start with the Spiel & Holz, it's hard to stop. This year we're getting an ocotogon puzzle and a little smurf house stacker. If I was rich, we'd have so so much more!
