We have been using a mix of pockets on dd for the past 2 months. I noticed this week that when she pee's, they smell more than usual. I haven't had any problem with leaking, just the smell thing.

I have been using Purex F&C, and wash every other day. I do a cold rinse, hot wash+detergent, and then another cold rinse. I don't use a lot of detergent, b/c we only have 8 diapers. I usually put in 2-3tbsps, and do a large wash. Is that enough? There are always lots of suds, and the diapers smell clean.

Tonight, I decided to try and strip them to see if it was detergent build up. I have washed on hot 3 times with no detergent, and each time the water was quite soapy. We have soft well water, so I am thinking maybe I need to try another kind of detergent? Anyone have this problem with Purex F&C?

I just really want to get the detergent thing right before baby #2 is here!

I have had a similar problem. Not a bad stink but I started smelling something I use Purex FC and do the same wash as you, cold rinse, hot with detergent, extra cold rinse. Sometimes I use a cold wash instead of a cold rinse. I used to use baking soda and vinegar but not anymore. I tried to strip, didn't get a lot of suds but it seemed to help with the smell for a while. But after a few more uses, they started to have that odor again. I may try stripping with dawn but I get nervous about that since I have a front loader and it is so hard to rinse the dawn out. I had to add hot water to the machine just to soak them when I stripped. Any suggestions? I posted this before and someone else with a front loader said they used dawn successfully, just lots of rinses. So, maybe I should try that.

We were using disposables. I started to pick up some cloth for dd during the buying process for the new baby. I still use some sposies for her, but since she has started potty learning, during the day, we have been using undies or training pants. She is still in a diaper when we go out, or at night

Thanks I will try using less next time.
