I didn't want to hijack Teri's (mamazon4) thread so I thought I'd start a new one.<br><br>
I really think that stockpiling nonperishables would help me cut my weekly grocery bill dramatically if I can just figure out how to do it on a reduced budget!<br><br>

hillbillyhousewife has given me great tips.<br>
I now only buy powdered milk I even found powdered adult soy milk!<br>
I also learned how to make my own nut milks..<br>
(get nuts roast em if you want to, boil, blend strain... fresh homemade almond milk is so amazing compared to the packaged kind)<br><br>
I like her snack beverage ideas and have just perfected carmel corn..<br>
(pan, butter, corn heat...wait until almost popping throw in brown sugar makes me happy at night when its just me..) the iced herbal tea instead of juice saves me on fruit juice big time!<br><br>
ps I've never been a coupon clipper and don't get the paper how do people get product coupons other ways? I am in Canada...go onto company websites?

I try to pick up extra dry beans and rice or other grains when I shop the bulk area at the health food store because they are cheaper there. I also try to pick up a couple extra cans of veggies when I see a good sale and have a little extra money. That is about as far as I have gotten in learning to stock pile.<br><br>
It really did help this last couple weeks though when we were really strapped for money!!

forgive me environment but I think I have just killed a few trees with my coupons...I got inspired last night and went surfing for coupons...<br>
cause when you can't find $2 bucks for bread you think hmm what if I could get coupons and save a bit every week...<br><br>
I think I signed up for a few too many coupon services and the mail that is going to come is going to kill too many trees..<br><br>
hey anyone ever do any online surveys? contests?<br>
my ss does contests and wins but I know nothing about that and don't feel like emailing the 'expert' who has gotten like 3 vacations abroad with her contest sumbitting skills..

Shiloh which sites did you use for coupons? I have been thinking about doing that but when I look thru the ones that come in the mail now it is never for anything I actually use.<br><br>
I bought soup, oatmeal, blackeyed peas, rice, and pasta to add to my stock pile this week. I also bought extra butter because it was on a really good sale and stuck it in the freezer.

Anyway, I watch the Superstore discount bin for good bread and produce. I find quite often organic produce ends up there because this area hasn't really caught on to organics yet. I stick what I can in the deep freeze.<br><br>
I ran a food order coop a couple of times- good, bulk food at whole sale $$$. It's a Canadian company and if you want the name PM me. The problem is we now need a minimum order of $1450 to get free shipping so it takes a bit of energy and time to coordinate everybody. I hope to pull one together this summer. If not I'll buy one bulk bag per month from the health food store to get my stocks up again.

I went to the company's site directly so I'd think hmm what do I use or like to eat...<br>
I like Mr. Clean toiletbowl cleaner - find company that owns them, go to site see if they will deliver coupsons, samples, have contests.. Loblaws/Superstore has contests and stuff as well.<br><br>
I never thought of looking for organic produce in the scratch and dent bin! but you are right it probably gets bought less!<br><br><div style="margin:20px;margin-top:5px;">

OOH MEMORIES They do organic stuff with a sun in the logo...in uni we used to get them all the time...memories of 4dollar cherry juice..<br>

I haven't used coupons in years, but I may just try writing to the companies I use stuff from when I don't buy the store brand. good idea! (Like garden burgers,cereal,etc!). it's worth a shot anyway! do they still do triple coupons at places like Safeway I wonder?<br><br>
I do stockpile groceries, but I have found stockpiling meals in the freezer is helpful too for our smallish family. and almost better at times because if I don't keep track of things sometimes they expire..I had to throw a bunch of expired food out a few months ago. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">: but I am more on top of it now and rotating stuff. it takes awhile to find a groove I think!
