My DD has had 3 mucousy diapers in a row. One last night, one early this morning, and one just now. She never poops more than once a day, so the number in and of itself is unusual. But I'm more worried about the fact that they look mucousy. The color and amount seems normal. Is this a stomach virus? I've felt sick to my stomach since yesterday afternoon, but haven't actually had any 'issues'. Also, we introduced a new solid - banana - to DD on Sunday. She ate hardly any, as we let her self-feed. But she did have some Sunday morning and some last night at dinner time before she started having said diapers. Is this something to worry about? She's nursing fine and seems in perfectly good spirits.

My child had a similar reaction when we first let her have bananas, except there was also a sharp smell to the poop.<br><br>
We stopped the bananas and I started a food diary for us both, including whatever we both ate as well as her resulting diapers.<br><br>
I wanted to make sure it wasn't something in MY diet contributing.<br><br>
Turns out in our case at least, it was teething. We re-introduced bananas with no trouble at all a few weeks after the first incident. And every time she's had a mucousy dipe, it's been right before her little teeth break through the skin. I think the excess drainage/saliva contributes to the mucous, at least in our case.<br><br>
But we never would have figured that out if we hadn't kept a food diary. It was a huge help!<br><br>
It looks as if your babe is just over 6 months though, so I'd bet her system just isn't ready yet for solids. I'd wait a few weeks, then try again, and keep a record of anything you give her to see if there are subsequent issues.<br><br>
I would not think a few mucousy dipes automatically means a virus at all. Were she throwing up, or having constant diarrhea, then yes. But if you just started her on solids, and she's not teething, then I'd bet her system just needs more time to mature.<br><br>

I sometimes see mucousy poop when DS has a cold and when he's teething (which is constantly right now <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"> ) - even before he started solids. I wouldn't worry too much if she's acting fine and seems healthy. Poop can vary so much, even in an exclusively breastfed baby.

We did just start solids, but we let her self-feed - which means she basically plays with them and makes a big mess. She tastes a bit, and will feed herself some avocado. The banana was not such a big hit. The solids are really just for fun/experimenting.<br><br>
It could possibly be teething - I hadn't thought of that! She does seem fine otherwise.<br><br>
