On Sunday we went to a birthday party and I guess that's where Max caught his first virus.
He had diarreah and last night and this morning he was throwing up.

Any suggestions on how to make him feel better?
I keep giving him liquids, but he doesn't want to eat anything at all. Any suggestions on what to feed him during this time?

Poor little guy, I see that he lost a little weight for the past few days. He is already 20 months and only weighs 23 1/2 pounds...
He is weak and sad...How can I help him?

we caught the same thing at a birthday party on Saturday!

My dd literally threw up every 15-20 minutes all night on Saturday night, and my ds and I did the same thing last night.

Luckily it was short. My dd was feeling great by Monday and she is at school today.

What we did was this...

nothing by mouth (not even a sip of water) until it had been an hour since the last time she threw up
(anything going into the stomach can trigger the vomit reflex again)

then we started with ice chips, just a couple at a time. We made ours with smartwater, which is just water plus electrolytes, and it tastes just like plain water

She kept those down, so we progressed from there. She slept most of the day on Sunday, and monday morning she woke up and was ready to play and eat.

So far, my ds and I are following the same pattern. Hopefully it will be short for you all also!

and I hear you on the weight!
my ds will be 3 in April and he's only 25 lbs. We can't afford to lose any weight over here either.

hang in there mama

If he's throwing up, don't try solids until that has stopped. Ds (he's 1) just got over something similar but the vomiting lasted 7 days. He only weighed 19 lbs and dropped down to just under 18. They were never concerned about weight loss as long as he was hydrated. Once he finally stopped vomiting he was able to bf and ate yogurt and toast without much trouble and we went from there. Good luck! Hopefully your ds's will be much more short-lived than my ds's.

Ds here has stomach virus. Its his first time so I came here looking what to do.

What is smartwater? Pedialyte is bad correct? I thought BF is ok? I have been doing that. Ds is 3.75 yrs old. I am mostly afraid of dehydration.

Ds is sleeping so I am on to find answers

With a stomach bug I don't ever make the kids eat. I give only sips of home made pedialyte which is fluoride free water with a pinch of sea salt and a bit of honey. That is basically all they need until they stop vomiting. Once they stop and want some food, the first thing to give them is plain toast. Just to see if they can keep it down.

BF is always alright.

A child will not dehydrate if he drinks a sip of something every hour. Just a little sip.
