First, I see a link to Kellymom above, that's good. I agree with that excellent site 99% of the time.

1.Breast milk does have a laxative quality.

2."He nursed yesterday for the first time since the baby has been born--twice, I believe. Now, today he has terribly runny stools."

It's very possible that he nursed because he didn't feel well and instinctively knew mom's milk would help him fight the illness. So the runny stools may be from some tummy bug that led him to want to nurse in the first place.

Not sure which possibility it is...1 or 2.
