my 6 yr old ds seems to have ants in his pants... he cant sit still... hes all over the place and hes been jumping on the couch.... a definate NO NO...<br><br>
its been going on for 2 days now... we've been outside, to the park, to the grocery store, etc etc...<br><br>
any tips?? im getting really annoyed

We just have a crappy couch so that I don't mind the jumping and climbing... Maybe he needs a long day outside with some friends?

Let him jump on his bed?<br><br>
Take the cushions off the couch and let him jump from the couch to the floor?<br><br>
Is he bored? Tired? Anxious about something?<br><br>
Jumping is calming -- it provides deep feedback for the body about where it is, so I wouldn't discourage it so much as redirect it to where it's more appropriate.<br><br>

My ds started acting like this a few months ago. He's 41/2.<br>
It doesn't matter how much exercise he's had that day, he just can't sit still. At dinner he falls off the chair about 10 times becasue he's fidgeting so much.<br>
I don't quite know what to make of it either.

Change "he" to "she" and that is my DD. I'm always like, "what are you doing on the floor?"<br><br><br>
anyway..can you get one of those trampolines where the kid holds on to a bar?<br><br>
My kids jump on their beds but they also jump off the couch.

My DD loves to jump on an inflated aerobed (blow up mattress). It's bouncy, large and close to the floor so it's safe.

The funny thing is with this kid, I bring him outside to play, he just stands there. Unless other kids are around, then he'll follow their lead.

Tomorrow we are definatley going to the park...taking bikes, scooters etc... the older kids need to wear themselves out...<br><br>
JUMP JUMP JUMP.... sad thing is we have a huge rainbow playsystem in the backyard and it wont wear them out like the park will...<br><br><br>
as for the falling off the chair at dinner.... DD was in a highchair until almost 4... and she only moved cuz i refused to have 5 hc's in the kitchen....<br><br>

I have a jumper too, he doesn't stay still unless he's sleeping!! (and that takes at least 30 mins to get done!). I've been watching Craigslist and Freecycle for one of those small trampolines w/the bar, but no luck yet.

I have a little hopper too, and it's great to know there are many like her. We do let our girls jump on the bed right before bed time. We all co-sleep on a king sized bed on the floor, so it's just too tempting for them. And a lot of times dh and I join in because it's tempting for us as well.<img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/winky.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Wink">

Ditto! Air mattresses are great! We also have one of those mini trampolines that we get out on a regular basis.

It is ok to climb all over the chair, turn it into forts, jump on it, etc. This allowed me to designate the couch as "the calm couch", a safe haven for a mom who just needs a couch - complete with cushions intact - to sit down and rest without fear of being pounced on.

I've got 2 couch jumpers here. Most days they stop with a gentle reminder. But some days... <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/img/vbsmilies/smilies/jumpers.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="jumpers"> It can turn into such a battle, but I think that's more to do with other happenings of the day and control issues than getting their bounce on.
