Hi Mamas,

DS will be 7 weeks old tomorrow. I had some extensive tearing (OB said it looked like a forceps delivery), and had stitches at the hospital the next day. OB said at my 3-week PP check that it was healing well, except a small opening. First of all, it didn't really hurt until after the stitches, and then it was extremely swollen, it burned, and I couldn't sit for long periods or ride in the car. Now it still burns on the left side when I pee, but no one can see anything that isn't healed.

Does anyone know how I can stop the burning? I've tried witch hazel, baking soda baths, and vitamin C and A.

Thanks!

I had some skin that was stretched but not really torn. I'd get in a cool shallow bath to pee until that healed. It helped a lot.

I would also try some epsom salts baths for a while. sorry you're having pain still!

sorry you are in pain, I'd make sure as you can everthings ok with your wound, keeping the area as clean and dry as you can, and also plenty air. I seem to remember the stitched area can be a pain for a while until properly healed. As long as there's no infection it will heal, it can take some time though. You could try few drops of lavender and a drop or two teatree in a small bath, like sit in a basin of this bath water and it should help a bit at least. You could use a small amount of unadulterated herbal skin cream on the area but make sure it's ok to use on this type of skin. Maybe calendula might be suitable and almond oil is said to help repair skin too. It's really burny when you pee so the pp's advice sounds good as you would get a break from the recurrant aggravation of urine on wound that can irritate and impede the healing process. I remember this from many moons ago and it was really uncomfortable. Drink echinacea to boost your system , eat good food and help repair the tissue damage. Hope you feel better soon.

I had some stretching that burned when I peed and I got in water evertime I had to pee. It made it more bearable. That may help. I hope it feels better soon. That burning feeling is horrible!

If you don't want to get into water every time you pee (which does help tremendously and I used it quite a few times), try buying a peri bottle and filling it with warm water each time and spraying yourself down below while you're going. That helped a lot too, and I put some Betadine solution in it twice a day to assist with keeping it clean if need be. That was immediately PP, though and there was still blood, etc. for a couple weeks.

Peri cold packs really help with swelling. I don't know if you can get them local, but hospitals have them. I've also heard of people freezing pads. Never done that myself - I've always just bought the peri cold packs from inhishands. Hope you feel better soon!

Are you allergic to the material they used for the stitches?
