OMG ! And how did the kid get so damaged that he needed Ritalin in the first place? No one wants to look at that issue although it's pretty much a done deal as soon as the parmaceutical companies get a hold of a newborn.

This really burns me up!
: I'm so
mad that social services has so much power. How terifying. DH told me he heard about this on "The Savage Nation" radio talk show. Michael Savage said he would collect $ and bail this guy out from jail. He said something like, "What-are we living in a communist country?!"

If I were the dad, I would have gotten some professsional person (2nd opinion, etc.) on my side when deciding to do this. You just gotta know that if you go against your dr's orders, there'll be trouble.

Yet another reason to homeschool your child. Hey teacher: Maybe the kid can't sit still b/c he is gifted and your class is boring!

Exactly. Gifted and bored.

Or maybe the classes are too full of kids so those that need the individual attention aren't getting it.

and yes, CPS does have that power. Trust me on this. If they can justify a reason to take a child, even if it means making up the allegations themselves, they will do it. If they believe you aren't the best possible parent for your child, they will extrapolate on allegations until they have everything they need to take your child.

You're poor and on welfare? Can't provide decent housing? Instead of helping you find cheap, decent low-cost housing, they'll take your child because you can't provide "adequate" housing. Not enough food in the fridge - especially the day before check issue? Neglect and starving your child.

I could go on.

That is totally whacked.
My dh was a Ritalin kid. His mom, a nurse, still apologizes to him for it. She did as instructed by the doctors. Thanks to Ritalin, he never slept, his growth was stunted, and he had a sh*tty childhood. High five to this dad for recognizing the problems and standing up for his son's rights and health.

Sick, sick, sick. My dh was talking about this tonight. He actually heard about it on the conservative radio show he listens to. They were bashing the school and CPS for drugging kids.

My CPS worker here tried to label my 21 month old child with "explosive child" label. That can't even be used until the child is at least out of his "terrible twos" and that's from a book on the subject.

Nope. He "took a course" and so he "knew all about it." Well, gee mr. I know everything, you might have taken a course, but I'm a research hound. We'll get my son tested first by an arbitrary third party THEN we'll talk about what labels certain people should get.

I can just see this guy in 5 years doing spot checks to see that my "hyper" child gets his "feel better or else" pill.

No thank you. Not my child. I'd rather go completely organic even if it means our food bill skyrockets instead of letting that happen.

This pill popping mentality of CPS is just wrong. Can't afford therapy or activities to keep the kid interested? Pop a pill. Kid too active in school? Pop a pill. Class too crowded for one on one? Pop a pill.

CPS is way out of control. And people wonder why I hate them. This is just the tip of the mountain for me.

this sort of thing always makes me SO MAD!
:

the one thing that disgusted me the most in this article:

Preschoolers up to age 5, the study found, were the fastest-growing users of prescription antidepressants.
