I'd love if you could help me brainstorm what might have caused bruising on DS's right ear. The bruising encompasses most of the exterior portion of the right ear cartilage. There was very minor swelling associated with the bruising yesterday, but it resolved by this morning. It doesn't seem painful to him.

He's not mobile enough to bump his head.

Here's a picture taken this morning-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...tion/003-5.jpg

I think I fixed it, maybe... let me know if it's still broken and I'll host it elsewhere. I know photobucket is finicky sometimes.

We're planning to take him in Monday- if it gets worse before then we'll cetainly look at the ER, but it's the external part of the ear, and not getting worse, so I don't want to risk the germs at the ER if I don't have to.

If it's getting lighter and not darker and there is no swelling and it isn't hot to the touch, I wouldn't do the E.R. either. It looks like a blood vessel burst or something? My son had a bruised tongue when he was 2 months old, but that was from sucking on it during a nap one time...I can't think of a way a vessel would burst in an ear...But, like I said, if it's gettingbetter, you're probably ok.

The only thing I've been able to come up with is a possibility of his grabbing it and twisting when he was overtired- I don't remember his doing it, but I can't think of any other way it could have happened. Of course, when I google it I come up with horror stories of child abuse, but since he's always with my husband or myself, I'm comfortable with saying that isn't a possibility.

if he has a blood clotting disorder a minor bump could cause bruising like that. I think you're wise to see a doc monday.
