Does anyone else's lo try to nurse while lying down on their stomach? I'm not talking about tummy to tummy - Ds in the last few days has been lying flat on his tummy on the bed and pulling my nip down to his mouth and eating this way.
He was never much for skin to skin - one of his nicknames is ol' sweat head because he sweats so darn much. He is very good at nursing while we lay on the bed on our sides, but recently wants to lay flat and nurse at the same time! It's not particularly comfortable, but he's been having a rough sleeping patch here of late, and if it works, I don't want to disturb him. But I don't want to make it a habit either...
Could it be a phase? Note: He's been a stomach sleeper from the very first night, and has a hard time sleeping on his back unless he is out out out!
My 18-month-old does this lately, but usually only when she's about to go to sleep. (She has a variety of other bizarre positions for when she's wide awake.) She's a confirmed stomach sleeper as well.
My DS does this too...he just started it maybe a month or so ago...it's usually how we nurse all night now, because he loves to sleep on his tummy. Whatever floats his boat and keeps him happy!
Yes! It is driving me crazy! I'm not exactly well-endowed, and they can only stretch so far... but dd wants to lie facedown, push her bottom up in the air and sort of walk back and forth with her feet... while nursing.
When I nurse ds side-lying he often pushes me over onto my back and and tries to nurse while he's on all fours next to me. This is kinda painful since he's smushing into me so I just sit up and put him in cradle hold.

I could have written your post. Lately, my son wants nothing more than to nurse face down. I even tried putting him on my stomach to see if that would work, but that wasn't what he wanted. He wants to lie on his stomach next to me, latch on, and turn his head so he's face down. It *almost* works, but I can only be stretched so far......
God, the boobers are taking more and more abuse every day! Now he wants to scurry over to them and eat for a second while I lie on my back and he's practicing crawling. Then, he wants to sit up on my lap while I sit up and eat that way. But the worse is when he grabs my boob with his demon claws and pincing death grip! He just yanks and pulls in all directions like it's a play thing! OUCH!
I'm trying to start a little gentle manners teaching, but he's only 6 mos, so what can you do? Does the mangling ever stop?
My ds is 11mo now and in the last few weeks this has become his favorite position. He likes to lay face down with his little tushy stuck up in the air and rocks back and forth. Ouch! Even when we are sitting in the recliner he wants to lay on his tummy, very interesting.

I think i actually pictured a child doing that while reading this post..lol I nurse on my tummy, but my huge, lifeless boob flops and lays out to the side, only when my back hurts and it feels better to do it
I noticed this threa a while ago and didn't have anything to add...
Yesterday (maybe because it was super humid and my SIL had her AC set at 80F
: ) my little guy started experimenting. He seemed to like being up right and facing me...but wherever he goes he squirms like crazy and is sure he can take my boob with him.
We nurse this way every other time. DD sleeps on her belly and I either sleep on my side (when she is eating one side) or my belly (when she is eating the other). Works for us!
