My 12 month old has a fever and apparently strep throat. They are running a culture right now.
His allergist wants to prescribe an antibiotic if this is the case.
However, baby has multiple food allergies and leaky gut, and I'm really not wanting to resort to an antibiotic.

Are there other methods to heal this?
I just did a quick search and found some info on colloidal silver?

All my kids' illnesses (well, not diarrhea/vomiting ones) have responded very well to bowel tolerance vitamin C, dosed 3-4x/day. We were in at our cranial-sacral doc's a couple months ago and she looked in the kids' throats (I had said they seemed slightly sick) and she said there were white streaks down my daughter's throat. She asked if we knew anyone with strep, but we didn't and I wasn't interested in testing. The kids got better just like always. Don't know if it was strep, of course.

I completely agree about Vitamin C, that's what we used when my ds had strep a few weeks ago. But I did want to add that our pediatrician also recommended usnea tincture for strep. We didn't try it because I could not find it locally.

I hope your little guy feels better soon!

we have a children's echinacea tincture we give at onset of any illness. Funny I should find this thread, I can't find the search link, and I suspect my DS and I have strep. A friend recommended zinc, but not sure if this is safe for infants. Research I have done states that strep will go away on it's own within 3-7 days with or without antibiotics. Anyone else have any idea's? My DS is 29 months. I was told to gargle seasalt water, but my DS can't gargle.

So, I should just look for liquid Vitamin C?
We have a small-ish health food store in town, and I can try to find it there. They are usually out of stock on so much!
I do have an echinacea tincture...suppose I could try that. My oldest always reacted to it, though.

We use Vit. C in the form of sodium ascorbate (SA) for illness. Here is more info about that...

http://www.mothering.com/discussions...03&postcount=2

Good luck!

I can get small bottles (8oz, I think) of sodium ascorbate at Whole Foods (usually) and I'll do that if I'm in a pinch, but normally I keep bigger jugs on-hand from Bronson Pharmaceuticals, item 50B. It mixes well into juice or other cold beverages.

Another really great remedy is propolis. My favorite product is sambucol - it has elderberry extract and propolis in it. Propolis has been shown to kill strep. I learned about it from my midwife who uses it to treat strep B infections.

Strep will usually go away by itself (I usually focus on comfort measures). Abx just make it non-contagious faster. If you don't do abx, strep remains contagious for several days. So observe good hygiene!
