So,the nurse-ins have generated A LOT of press and interest. Can we discuss ways to use this momentum to *really* get something done?

PLEASE add your thoughts/suggestions! Now is the time for change!

My ideas:
1) Write/call/email our representatives asking for protection of our right to nurse in public,and to fund more breastfeeding education/support.

2) Make plans for World Breastfeeding Week(August 1-7).

3)Distribute materials from the National Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign. If you have a Community Based Demonstration Project(see link),call or email and ask how you can help. Offer to contact media and ask them to show ads. If you don't have a CBDP,email the public relations contact on the NBAC link. They may still be distributing posters that we can place anywhere and everywhere they're allowed. Some ideas: WIC office,OB offices,pediatricians,family doctors,dentists,DHR offices,laundromats,ect.

I would think contacting your State representatives would be a great start. You might contact your State/County bfing task force,too.

Does anyone know how Ellen DeGeneres feels about breastfeeding? My guess is she would be eager to polarize herself apart from Rosie, but I could be wrong there. She used to have the "Riff Raff Room" on her show but it's gone now. Maybe she'd be willing to have a "Lactation Room" on her show for a day or two?

I would think Ellen would support b/f only because she grew up Christian Science. Her Mother seems to be the AP type.

I totaly have been thinking about that! I think she would be a great way to go.
I think if we have an "Oprah campaign" and we all work very close together on this we may be able to get a show out of it.

My thoughts on how to get her attention is to write emails and letters. We should pick a time frame and send them all at once or within a weeks time, this way it will be more effective in getting the attention of the 5 people who read and sort her email. I don't know how she handles snail mail but I assume it is the same process.

We should keep the focus on BFing in public.

She has formula commercials that run so this might not be so easy.

If Oprah say's it is okay to BFIP then we will have some huge progress going on for sure

don't forget the key audience is those that have not made the decision one way or the other yet - HS and college campuses

host a speaker in your community - we are having Barbara Berhman Breastfeeding Cafe (www.breastfeedingcafe.com) come do a reading at a local coffee shop. That should be some good NIP.

Pre/post natal yoga classes, CBE classes - discuss not only importance of BF but NIP etc

I aslo think introduction of babywearing is key; knowing our options, learning how, getting support etc all really help with NIP

i agree. if someone comes up with letters to send to the reps as well as oprah and ellen, i think a lot of us would be able to copy and paste.

i'd love to write some letters myself but i have too much going on at the moment to commit to it.
