My cousin just did the string test on me to determine the sex and it was very interesting. I'm curious about other mama's experiences with it.

It supposedly will tell you the sex of every baby you'll have in order of birth. Mine said girl, boy, boy, girl, girl which to me means that we're having a girl since I have a daughter and I would count the twin boys even though they didn't survive. My cousin's said girl, girl, boy so she should be having a girl too.

I don't see how it could possibly work but it is fascinating since it appears to give you the same prediction every time. I can't wait to see if ours come true!

Who else here has tried it?

How is this done? Is that the one where you suspend your wedding ring?

My friend did this to a whole bunch of us one girls night (with string and paper clip or something I believe. Way before any of us started having kids). She swears by it. Mine was boy, boy, girl. And that is exactly what we had. Very weird. Don't believe it one bit so weird indeed! But here we are with number four. She said that the above is what we were supposed to have... and number four was a surprise. Who knows? Maybe it does work after all! :)

Yes. We hook a piece of thread and suspend a ring on it. Then you hold it steady about an inch above your belly or wrist. The string will start swinging in a circle (girl) or back and forth(boy). It will continue one motion for a while, maybe 20 or 30 secs, slow down and then start in the same or a different motion for your second. It really is interesting.

According to my cousin, you can continue this indefinitely to see what you would have with every pregnancy if you continued to have children. So supposedly you can figure out how many kids you would need to have to have one of each sex if that were important to you.

It can't be any more accurate than the Chinese predictors, right?? but it's fun nonetheless!

Lioness and jwood... Neat that it worked for you! I think I'm going to try it on all my pregnant friends!

i did it a little differently though. i will cut and paste the instructions i used.

A thin necklace or thread will work just fine.

A ring that has little weight to it.Material doesnt matter, or even a round flat washer will work.

This can be done on yourself or you can do it on others.

Thread the ring to the necklace etc.Holding the unclasp necklace with your thumb and pointer finger so it can move freely.

Lay your wrist palm side up on a flat surface "table" etc.

Dangle the ring over your wrist without touching but still close to your wrist.

What will happen next.

The ring should start making a circular motion.Above your wrist, yes you are doing it right.Sometimes it may do this for several seconds.

Then you will notice it wills tart going a certain direction "either" swining across your wrist which means girl or from the elbow to fingertip which means oy.Sometimes it will swing for quiet a few seconds.

Ok so lets say yours went across your wrist from left to right, right to left either way its a GIRL...ok keep holding it very still and if you are having another baby it will start making that circle motion again like it did in the beginning.

Each time it starts a new circle means another baby.

Now i must tell you this as I feel its only right but it does show all miscarriages, abortions or still births.

Circles=another baby

Across wrist= a GIRL

Up and down arm= BOY

If it doesnt move or do anything, just hangs=no children.

Oh, okay, so it's classic pendulum stuff... I have an actual pendulum in my jewelery box somewhere, I should dig it out for this. :)

Okay, so I did this on myself and the test said boy, boy. Then I asked DH to try it and it didn't move. I was convinced he was sabotaging the experiment and he was convinced I was moving the string, so we hung the string/ring from the microwave so there was no human interference. And it didn't move. So now I'm pretty sure I was influencing the results. Anyone else try hanging the string from an inanimate object? Did it still work for you?
