If your diapers begin to have a strong ammonia smell, become less absorbent, or if the fleece begins to repel liquid it may mean you have a buildup of detergent.

Stripping refers to the removal of that residue on your diapers. For cotton or hemp diapers you just do several very hot washes with no detergent, checking each time during the rinse cycle to see if there are still suds. To strip your pocket diapers, you just hand wash your diaper with your regular dish soap (gets the oils out), add a bit of dish soap to the fleece, either rub the fleece vigorously together or use a medium bristle dish brush or hard bristle tooth brush to scrub the fleece. Turn inside out and repeat on this side. Rinse very good, making sure that the water runs clear.

Thanks. I just realized your the person I just ordered a sampler pack of diapers from. DD is wearing the fuzzi bunz right now. I like them a lot more then the kushies I had. My dh sent your link to a friend of ours who just had their first so they can order the sampler as well.

I'm glad YOU asked.
Would vinegar help? I think someone once told me to use vinegar. My cd's would take on an inpenetrable stale poo smell. I am going to start using cd's again and I really want to avoid that.
