I'm 31 weeks pregnant and my current lease ends May 31. I'm disappointed my landlord won't let me go month-to-month, even though I have a note from my Dr. that says that heavy/repetitive lifting, standing for long periods of time, etc. (all of which are required for moving) may compromise my pregnancy.

No one will rent to me without proof of income at least 3 times the amount of rent. Here in Hawaii, that means at least $4500 per month for a 2-bedroom, $1500 apartment.

Should I just stay here until they kick me out, or should I try to move (at health risk for me and baby)? I have nowhere to go and no proof of income (nor any money) because the judge wouldn't order my husband to pay for new housing. What are my options?

I would simply tell your landlord that you NEED to go month to month per your DOCTOR'S orders, you are unable to do any heavy lifting. And if he threatens to evict you, simply tell him that he is welcome to do so, the publicity will do him a world of good. Tell him you can see it now:

Landlord evicts pregnant woman who has doctor's note stating that the heavy lifting required for moving would compromise the baby. Said woman is not behind on rent, just unable to move as a result of her doctor's orders.

And if he goes ahead and evicts you, file for emergency pendente lite support. It's a whole lot different when you are in dire straights than when you are in a place to live.

I would try to find a new living situation ASAP. I would not want the stress of an impending eviction right before giving birth, nor the stress of being forced to move with a newborn.
You say you don't have any money or income, so I would look into staying with friends or relatives or applying for welfare and trying to obtain government/emergency housing.
I wish you luck.

I borrowed enough for 3 months rent from my sister and took it to the agency this morning. I said I'm not asking for month-to-month (the owner already said no), I'm just asking to extend until the end of August. stbx will pay for May, and June - Aug should be covered by the check. She said she can't take advance payments, they will have to be separate, post-dated checks, but I also gave her a copy of my Dr. note. She said she will get back to me. She noticed I'm tiny and I told her I'm 31 weeks and have only been able to gain 8 lbs so far - she said it must be the stress. I'm like, "of course it is!"

Praying that they will show me some mercy. That was all I could think of to do, even though it's unconventional. Think it will work?
