Hey!

I'm not a student yet, but just found out that i'll be going back in the fall. I finished my BA psychology & child studiees @ Brock university, St. Catharines,Ontario. And will be going back to do teacher's college with a husband and baby in tow. This will mean a move, hopefully sometime in the summer so that we have time to settle in and DH can find a job.

Any other student or soon-to-be student mamas out there?

Any tricks of the trade/ advice??

Hello fellow student Mama! I'm an undergrad student at the University of Utah, working on my bach. in early childhood with a certificate for Child Life.
This is my first semester back after getting married and having my daughter (took a little over 1yr. off). It's a little harder to find the time for school work! but my Dh is so supportive and we make it work.
I wish you luck with your move, your Dh finding a job, and of course... school!

I hear ya on the hard to find time to get school work done.

I'm a procrastinator as is, i'll find any excuse not to get things done 'til absolutely necessary- and i think an babe's a pretty darned good one. That habit will have to change.

I guess I can just take all the hours that i spent drinking in university last time around and put those towards school this time!

So, any words of advice? Anything you had to figure out the hard way?
How old is your ds? and how old was she when she first started? is she in daycare?
Biology major here.

Just don't expect to cram and pull allnighters like the young students.

My big piece of advice is to continously study and not get backed up with work.

Try to get your family on your team.

Hello! I'm also interested in any advice in how to be in school again and be a good mommie. I am in the process of trying to go back to school to get my BS in nursing. I already have my BA in teaching but have felt a calling to go back and pursue this. My dd is 6mo old and I stay at home with her. Is this too young to start something again? Any opinions out there?
Well, my guy's only 4 mos. and i'm in the same boat. I'll admit, I'm feeling a little guilty about having to put him in the campus daycare, and I know the first while will be tough on us both, I just hope that both he and I can connect with the staff there and make it as positive or an experience as possible!
I don't use the University's day care. Dh and I have our schedules worked out that one of us can be with her. Dh actually teaches at the University, so his schedule is pretty flexible.
We are however enrolling her in the University preschool next semester. She'll be barely 24 months. I'm a little nervous! But both Dh and I will be very close if we're needed.
My advice would be don't plan on cramming for tests like you probably did the first time around. I have to allocate time daily for studing. Also don't overload yourself. You can only do SO much, school is important... but family should always come first.
Oh and... get funding!!!!!!!! there is so much funding out there just waiting to be got! so get it

Fellow student/mama here!
I am going to school for nursing (finishing up pre-reqs right now and hope to start the program this fall or next). I have been going part-time so that I'm home with the kids most of the time (4 yr old ds and 16 month old dd). I've found that it is easier for me to just take one or two courses at a time right now, so that's what I've been doing. Once I start the nursing program, though, it will be more difficult with the clinicals.
It is certainly more difficult to do the whole school thing with little ones at home. When I went to school for my bachelor's in English, I remember staying up late, downing 2 liter bottles of mountain dew so that I could stay up late to finish a paper, etc. haha.. Don't think I will be able to do any of that stuff now! (Plus dd is still nursing, so she would be pinging off the walls! lol)
It is going to be tricky for me to learn how to manage my time effectively, but it's something that is really important to me, so I'm going to figure it out.

Nice to see some other student mamas!

I just found out where we'll be moving has no diaper service
that makes me sad 'cause washing diapers will be one more thing to add to my plate- but oh well, it's worth it to me!

So my theory is that I'm going to try to have dh take ds for a couple hours on Sunday so that I can try to get as much food prep. done for throughout the week to hopefully make dinner easier and quicker. I still want to be able to have good home-cooked meals, I don't want to fall into the frozen dinner cycle. Making lunches and carying everything to school (don't know yet if i'll have a car or have to take the bus) I think will be the biggest challenge. And staying on top of the dishes- i hate dishes, and laundry- the two things that NEVER go away!!

Mind you here I am thinking that all this extra will fall on my plate. DH has assured me that he'll take on more too, i just keep forgetting that the help is there.

Any vegetarians use a slow-cooker out there?? I was thinknig of getting one, so dinner will be done when we get home, but i can't imagine what you'd cook in it.
