Hey, I could use some advice/help. I'm craving this dish I make called "Curried Couscous and Garbanzo Bean salad" [you can find it at Epicurius], but it contains feta cheese, which I've heard I shouldn't have while pg. First of all, how dangerous IS feta? Second, if I really shouldn't eat it, what can I use to substitute? I was thinking olives cuz they're nice and salty like feta, but then there wouldn't be that creamy texture to offset the spiciness of the curry.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

most feta in the US is pasteurized. I personally don't think it's dangerous enough to avoid. I have eaten tons of it through both pregnancies. Soooo yummy! :

P.S. Feel free to send some of that salad my way!

Yeah it's easy to find domestic pasteurized feta-- which isn't a problem at all and it will say "pasteurized milk" in the ingredients so just check there. The only problem is cheese made with unpasteurized milk which can carry the harmful bacteria.

That's true about the US feta; I wonder why it's always listed so definitively? My DH had suggested capers too, so I might try that as well. I only have about 4 oz of feta on-hand anyway...

Thanks All!

My interpretation is if you're going to eat soft cheese, eat it fast!
