Substituting Toothpaste

466 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  MamaAllNatural
So, I'm wanting to stop buying toothpaste and just do my own thing. I'm thinking I can brush w/baking soda and then do a mouth wash after with things like tea tree oil, peppermint oil, and hmmmm...salt? So, does this sound like a good idea? Also, what will be my base for the mouth wash? Water? Is there anything else I should add? Do you think this would end up being more expensive than just buying toothpaste? Any input would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I tried the baking soda thing but I got tired of having it clump up, having to pour it out each day. (I know, big deal, but it bugged me.
)

I also read somewhere ?here--that straight baking soda is too abrasive to be used every day, should be okay once a week or so. Or maybe it was baking soda with salt that's too abrasive, I can't remember.

I have an essential oil mouthwash that I love from Essentics. It contains purified water, and the essential oils: lemon, tea tree, peppermint, clove.

HTH.

There's a thread around here somewhere with a recipe for homemade toothpaste. Try a search!

I make a toothpowder that is awesome!! I just put some of the dry powder on my toothbrush and my saliva moistens it.

I use sea salt, baking soda, arrowroot powder and essential oils of cinnamon leaf, clove, tea tree and peppermint.

Hope that helps!
