What could cause sudden EXTREME engorgement? My supply was almost regulated but I am an oversupply/over-active letdown mama. There was no separation and no missed nursing. The engorgement was only really severe on one side, our routine was no different, and it happened overnight.

Any ideas?

Maybe a plugged duct? Especially since it's only one side.

If so, nurse as much as possible, with a warm compress and gentle massage. The best tip I got was to use a disposable diaper with warm water as a compress. Be on the lookout for mastitis symptoms.
