I need some suggestions for a wonderful gift to give to each of my two homebirth midwives. Without them, we would not have felt comfortable having our baby at home, so they really made it possible for us. We want something that will last and that they can have that will remind them of us and keep reminding them how important and special they have been in our lives. Any suggestions? I know you beautiful women out there will have good ideas..................................Thanks

I am in the process of making gifts for my midwives now.

I made a book that ties closed with black ribbon, with pages that fold out like an accordion. I covered the edge with a silvery satin with swirly black velvet flocking. I then had the most beautiful pictures of the baby so far printed in black and white. Each page of the book has its own picture.

Some of the pictures are from the first visit they had with us after he was born, his first sponge bath, his first smiles, etc. etc. They are just beautiful.
I can't wait to finish it and give the books to them. Each midwife will get her own (we had 3).

Just adding my .2 to the responses you have already gotten.

I gave my midwife and her assistant and my doula each a piece of jewelry in my son's birthstone (amethyst)--I thought it would be a nice reminder of his birth for each of them...so that they would know that I always remember their special care when I think of his birth. I also gave each of them a gift certificate to a very nice restaraunt in our town. And a letter telling them how much I appreciate all their hard work and support

They all seemed to really like their gifts.

I agree the attchments catalog has nice gifts for midwives.

It's amazing how much you grow to care for them as much as they care for you. My midwife is just as much friend as she is caregiver. ~ Honest advice, always has a smile to cheer me up, she always has that look of pride in her eyes. It makes me feel warm all over. She makes me feel so proud for my accomplishments and she is always cheering me on for my goals & successes.

Midwives definately deserve a gift.

We can't afford to buy anything nearly as nice as my midwife and doula deserve, but I made them book marks. I took small pictures of them with me and babe in the hospital, put on a strip of paper. Put a poem or a personal thank you message underneath the picture. I glued that strip onto a strip of colored construction paper, then had them laminated. Punched a hole in top or bottom and put a pretty ribbon through. I haven't given them to them yet. I hope they like them!

Snugglemama, I think that is a great idea and a lovely gift to give. That will always be a proud reminder for them of your birth every time they open a book with your bookmark in it..

I was planning to get my midwife the book The Red Tent, which has a midwife named Rachel in it, same as my midwife's name, plus it's a killer book. I might just appropriate the bookmark idea Please don't hate me for it!

What great ideas! I painted a tile at a local "paint by the hour" pottery place and bought the wooden frame for is so that it could be used as a trivet or hung on the wall. The whole thing cost about $12, and I painted a pregnant woman in a yoga pose ( our midwife is also a yoga instructor). She really seemed to like it.

I just saw on the Oxfam website that you can sponsor the midwifery training for a woman in a developing nation in the name of your midwife here in the states. I thought that would be a really thoughtful thank you and spread the amazing experience of midwifery.

as a mw, I *really* appreciate a massage after a long birth, so a gift certificate at a local spa would be really appreciated.
a client last month gifted me with a new BP monitor, which I *love* just because it was so needed and very practical. but, I'm a practical kinda gal
