I'm looking for suggestions about how to orchestrate OUR family bed.

I am a solo mama with a 2.5 year old and a 1 week old.
Right now I have a queen bed which is up against the wall at the head and one side. Toddler sleeps next to wall.

I had thought that i might convince the little one to sleep in a bassinet, but no luck so far, And i dont really want him to, now that hes here. why should he miss out?

but how can i do this safely? he cant be next to the toddler, or the wall, so that leaves me in the middle. But when i try that hes really close to the edge of the bed.

what about a moses basket or snuggle nest for a while, either in the middle or on the edge? would that be enough to keep him safe from big brother? what about when he gets more mobile?

help!

My youngest has been sleeping on the edge of the bed since she was born because Abigail would not give up the middle spot. I had a crib up against that side of the bed, so she couldn't roll out. I sold that crib recently and she is just accustomed to being on the edge and doesn't fall off now.

I'm wondering, how high off the ground is your bed? Would you be able to find a twin mattress to put on the floor next to your queen? Or perhaps invest in a bed rail for the side of the bed not against the wall.

Our family bed also has a baby, a toddler, and me
. It's a veeery large couch-bed that is close to the floor (when opened, of course). The bed really is large enough for five people. I tried putting my son in a bassinet for the first few days but it didn't work out, so he just sleeps in the bed - toddler on one side of me, baby on the other. I find that I sleep snuggled up to baby, who nurses a lot, and DD is further away from us, on her own. We used to snuggle, so it makes me a bit sad, but it does work.
