Anjali will be 8 months on the 25th of April and still isn't on any baby food only breastfed exclusivley. While I know babies CAN be BF only and thrive perfectly fine I am starting to be concerned with her gagginess. She does have really bad reflux and takes Zantac twice a day for it. She also has Tracheomalaysia which basically to sum it up means her muscle in her trachea where the flap opens and closes for you to breathe and swallow is weak so it causes the flap to open and close when it shouldn't causing either choking or gasping for air depending on which it does. So ANYWAYS my 2 sons both had both things but her reflux seems to be alot worse than theirs was. I have tried to introduce solids to her and she gags horribly and acts like she wants to vomit from the tiniest of tastes and textures. When I took her to the Dr yesterday the Dr made a comment about with her being sick she probably won't eat much but taking a bottle is fine. I quickly said she doesn't take any bottles at all and she isn't on solids at all either and she looked at me like I have 3 eyes!
: Being the opinionated voicer that I am, I told her right away that she chokes and gags on solids which is why she isn't on them. Since we were there for a sick visit she didn't have time to ream me about how she needs to be on solids etc etc. I forget what exactly it was that we did for my 2 sons to help them start eating solids without gagging and choking on everything that touches their tongues. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want solids to be her main source of food but I would like to gradually start introducing it so that she doesn't miss that "window" of when babies could refuse solids all together if not introduced in that certain time frame. I am not sure if its age or just a brain fart but I totally forget what we did with my sons to help this. HELP!!!

My daughter is breastfed, but she's been showing a lot of interest in food. She is also at that stage where she grabs everything and sticks it in her mouth. So, here's what I've been doing:

I buy mostly soft fruits and veggies, like avocados, bananas and potatoes, prepare them if necessary (examples: boil the potatoes or cut the avocado in half), and hand them to the baby. Sometimes I'll just give her a whole orange (organic though). She plays with the food and will try to stick everything in her mouth, fail miserably, and spit it all out, and make a huge mess everywhere. With an orange, she'll gingerly hold it with both hands and try her best to lick the skin off (which is why I specified that it is organic). She LOVES playing with her food, and that's all I'm really interested in having her do right now. If she actually tastes or eats anything, that's great. If not, that's okay too. Yesterday, she tried to grab her papa's bowl of soup, so he let her lick his spoon, and she stuck out her tongue and tried to swallow the entire thing. It was pretty funny.

My six month old is quite gagg, too. he's interested in the concept of food, but will only actually eat somethingif it's creamy and sweet. like prune puree mixed with yogurt. He won't eatmuch else. This is different than his big bro, but I'm just gonna bide my time, and avoid the doctor's office.
