Is this normal? DD1 never spit up or farted or burped. Really never and still doesnt except for the rare occasion, and her farts don't even smell. BUT 5 wk old dd2 can belch like a frat boy and passes so much gas. She also spits up a lot which I hear on these boards is normal and natural for some babies, but it sure doesn't seem it to me.

She dislikes spitting up, the farts are usually accompanied by cries/complaining and the burps can be unbelievably forceful.

She poops every 3 days and it smells like sour milk.

I took milk out of my diet 1.5 wks ago (dd1 is sensitive so i thought it could be happening again) but no changes.

She does swallow a lot of air when nursing, how can i stop this?

Ideas? TIA!

I'm not sure but it does kinda sound like an allergy to something, poor baby!

what do you eat a lot of? i have food allergies but over the holiday weekend i ate a lot of baked beans (i don't eat a lot of beans in general except hummous here and there) and cookies made from soy flour (which I know I'm allergic too but they were soooo good) - today my poor LO is miserable and tooting and belching more than DH. SO it's either the beans or the soy. See if the dairy helps and if not try to see what you eat a lot of that may be bothering your LO....good luck!

My dd does the exact same thing. burps like me , farts like crazy, and only poops every two or three days. I took out dairy for a couple of days to no avail.
I have no help for you, sorry. Just wanted to say me too!
Maybe someone else can help us.

Do you take any supplements??? Maybe that's it. I take a lactation supplement and fenugreek, also a stool softener because of the lac sup. I have suspected one of these for a while, but if I give them up there goes my milk...

Eliminating milk is something you have to stick with for 2-3 weeks before it really works, if that is the problem. And you have to be extremely careful - milk proteins seem to be everywhere, and they are the problem. I had to eliminate milk with DS2, and I noticed a difference after almost 3 weeks. Now I have slowly introduced some dairy products again and he hasn't reacted badly to that, so it might be an age thing as well - maybe the intestines are just super sensitive for a while. I think baby massage seemed to help some of the gas out too.

Can reflux cause this too? my 7 week old is said to have reflux.. he acts just like this! My second had severe allergic reactions to dairy and soy proteins so I have pretty much been reading labels since I was PG. I stay away from gassy foods.. dairy, soy.. ugh! he has been so fussy today.. what gives!
