Connor has hit the two month mark and apparently is quite the heavy wetter!
I'm having all sorts of issues with him leaking. So much so that *gasp* I had to resort to some Luvs here and there (changing all of his clothing with each diaper change makes for a nice huge pile of laundry!)

He even managed to completely soak through a FMBG in less than a half hour (and I didnt think that was possible!) Prefolds are a huge waste of time and laundry...they are not nearly absorbent enough for this guy.
I've tried bkt doublers, hemp, a whole variety of covers (so I dont think its the covers, but rather finding diapers that work for him)

Suggestions?

My 2 yr old just deleted all I wrote to you, my sign to get off of here. So I'll just say real quick that I have a heavy wetting 6 wk old who weighs 14 or 15 lbs. I have found that small dipes can't absorb enough since there is less coverage and less fabric to soak it up. I can live with a little bulk for now since he isn't crawling or walking and he is in the house in just a t-shirt most of the time, so no clothing worries. So for now, I like bikini cut cuddlebuns, since they're not overly bulky on him but offer a lot of fabric, and premium prefolds, which surprisingly are not overwhelming on him, and all of the extra fabric helps soak things up. He soaks everything though, so I change him every 30 minutes unless he's asleep. I use a fuzzi bunz with several hemp inserts on outings, because they are more leak proof than our wool, which can get damp on the outside if he's flooded his dipe.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

you know I hadnt even thought of cuddlebuns on him yet....and they are the bulk of my stash
next change I'll try one on him.

I'm not a huge FB fan, but I've been wanting to try Knickernappies at some point. Maybe I'll try harder to get some!

Its odd I feel like such a cloth newbie right now with this new dilemma. I've constantly had at least one babe, if not two in dipes at any given time for the last 5+ years, but *never* had this problem on such an itty bitty

I loved my size 1 FLAGs for that age. And I would imagine that FCB would be even thirstier. Right now I just trifold a 8x8 hemp washie and tuck it under the soaker.

And whatever happened when your little one was ill some time back?

Have you tried hemp prefolds? We use fleece topped hemp prefolds from fussybutt.com. They're awesome---especially at night! I swear, her diaper will be SO HEAVY in the morning, her wool wrap is not damp at all, and there are still dry spot on the prefold!

Thanks for asking Kim! hes obviously much better. Once the liver starts functioning better to clear out the bilirubin, it tends to clear up quickly. Its just WHEN its not working as well/fast that its scary. His level was so scary high, and breaking down blood cells.
Anyway...now hes gaining gaining and growing out of clothes and dipes.

Back to the actual topic

Yes have mucho FCBs and they work well during the day with a snap in doubler. I wouldnt dream of putting him down for a nap or to bed with that alone though.
I did just pull out a bikini cuddlebuns and fits him PERFECTLY!!! now I'll need to make some more with hemp soakers and hemp doublers and see if that does the trick.

Jaime suggested fireflies to me and I'm going to try my all hemp SOS on him maybe tonight. And oh how I'd love an elbee

Don't feel too bad about Elbees, they aren't very asborbant IME. I have a bunch of smalls and he soaks them and the mediums aren't the most absorbant on my older dd either. I just trade in abosrbancy for a trim fit and change more often. It's worth it with my dd, who is 2, because all of her clothes fit so well and she can run and play without a lot of bulk. But I'm not sure they're worth it so much on a younger babe.

So glad the cbs fits well! (Didn't you used to make those?) I am about to order more because I like them on my baby so much too, even though they don't have hidden snaps.

I agree about the elbee not being as absorbant as you may need.

I use an all hemp SOS with the fleece topped doubler. Around the house, I will tuck in a trifold doubler and go coverless. But at night, we do wear our wool soaker. Or I should say one of our wool soakers. It isn't like we only have one.
:

Another suggestion: Why don't you try tucking a wool liner under the two FCB soakers? That would make them work harder for you. I sometimes do this on my SOS, but it isn't as efficient seeing that the SOS has an internal soaker.

Glad to hear that your little one is feeling better.

yes used to make them so I have a gazillion of them in our closet (the majority however have sherpa soakers). I think I could go 3 weeks without doing diaper laundry...seriously. Between cpfs and fitteds....oy...too many to count. I have been cutting back lately and selling some off a few at a time trying to make more room in there.

Elbees. I didnt know much about the absorbency. I think I want one more for Dylan than for Connor.
I have a hard time convincing Dylan to wear cloth (he hates bulky) I'll be really glad when he uses the potty full time and I dont have to start a wrestling match when its time to change him!
