in terms of vitamin supplements, is there anything i should be avoiding while pregnant? any minerals or herbs?

and specifically, is Dong Quai ok during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

most important to avoid is stimulants such as ephedra, ma huang, guarana, etc
also, pennyroyal, licorice (only if you tend to have high blood pressure), blue & black cohosh (until end of last trimester).
multivites should be fine, essential fatty acids are fine, calcium, magnesium, etc are fine...
I wouldn't do dong quai unless prescribed by an acupuncturist.
kellymom has a list of dod and donts
thank you.

the multivitamins i just got have dong quai in them, which is why i asked.
You might want to check out the book "Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year" It is an awesome book that I still refer to. They recommend that you do NOT take Dong quai during pregnancy and lactation.
I was told not to take ginseng during pregnancy - but I already had during my first two without a consequence.

I was told that it was a masculine herb and had no place in a pregnancy.

Just my $0.02.
