I need help!

My BM & pumping supply is way down since becoming pregnant. I am only 6 weeks but today I only pumped 1.5 oz for 15 minutes when I normally get almost 10 oz in 10 minutes!! DS is 19 months and still nurses like a champ, especially at night, all night, but lately his sleep seems to be affected by the low supply too. He goes from side to side pulling and he's been waking up at 2 am wanting to play, and I think it's because there's no milk (boobs are deflated most of the time)! This am, he pulled off after trying both sides, pointed to my boobs, shook his head and said 'nooo'.

He is allergic to milk & soy, won't ever drink rice milk, so he needs some type of milk substitute and I really don't (can't afford) to do formula.

I posted this elsewhere too in hopes of some advice!!!!!

thanks!

1. congratulations
2. while letting him nurse as much as he wants, can you try to get some high fat foods into him (coconut oil/milk, avocado, salmon, gravy, higher fat meats, etc.). And just give him water if he's thirsty?
3. Have you tried something like almond milk? or any of the other alternatives?

thanks Kathy for the advice - yes I"m trying to get in high fat foods - he doesn't like avocado
but he does like coconut milk yogurt & ice cream. We also give him lots of fries - not the healthiest choice, but he will eat them, and it's already a challenge feeding this boy. I feed him lots of soups - that's the only way I can sneak in ground meats and pureed veggies (his favorites are split pea and lentil soups
)

he's allergic to nuts, eggs & corn too, in addition to the milk & soy, so it's really hard to find a milk substitute. He doesn't like rice milk, hemp milk or oat milk. Rats! today I mixed coconut milk with rice milk for the sitter to give him.

I know you like to make up your own recipes - do you have anything in mind that is bready & fatty? ( he pretty much is a carb guy - bagels (I make them), and any type of pasta).

thanks!!

The English muffins I used to make were good (dairy/soy free). Not really fatty though. You're not vegetarian right? Lots of gravies. DD2 loves to dip cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, and green beans in chicken gravy. We also do bacon and sausage. We do a lot of baked sweet potato fries (shake them up in a bag with olive oil - good fat - and sea salt & pepper; bake at 375F for 30 minutes, flip, then an additional 25 minutes). And there's a hash that's bacon, sweet potatoes, and onions, all fried in the bacon grease that DS loves. We do rice with gravy and chicken a lot. My kids like sausage (dipped in maple syrup). How about smoothies? You could put coconut milk in there and some different fruits (I use maple syrup for a little sweetener with the coconut milk; I also stick probiotics in there). Then I use the leftover smoothie and make popsicles out of them. The kids always like popsicles (kills the probiotics, but could be a way to get more coconut milk in there). We use coconut oil in a lot of our baking. Can he do peanuts (when you said nuts I don't know if you meant tree nuts, peanuts, or both). The peanut butter balls that are 1:1:1 peanut butter: coconut oil: honey, are really good and high in fat.

I'm definitely going to try smoothies b/c he loves coconut milk yogurt and the ice cream so I can add some good stuff to that. I looked at your blog again, and printed out a bunch of recipes that look really good. Tomorrow we're going to do pulled pork - we'll see how he does! I wan to try the eng. muffins - can I use arrowroot powder instead of starch? The cinnamon rolls sound amazing and I want to try your peach coconut muffins (his fav. fruit is peaches).

Can you use ww pastry flour intsead of light wheat? and for the coconut cereal squares - can I use rice syrup instead of the lyle's??

thanks!!

I usually use tapioca starch in the English muffins, but you could probably sub arrowroot (I just don't like the sharpness of the taste of arrowroot). I haven't used rice syrup so I don't know the consistency. Lyle's is like corn syrup consistency (but made out of cane sugar). Now that I figured out the non-gluten version of the pulled pork, I'm all over it again.

I got it off here originally (maybe in the Traditional Foods forum) but when I did it with the original ratios, it wasn't sweet enough for me. When I did the 1:1:1 ratios of honey, peanut butter, and coconut oil, it tasted like the inside of a Reese's peanut butter cup to me.... so good. I use the Nutiva Extra Virgin coconut oil. I don't know if it would be as good with something like Louann's that doesn't have the coconut flavor.

Mini meatball soup is a big hit with my kids, as are Swedish meatballs and chicken and dumplings
