Supply Question - night time bottle?

469 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  dearmama22
DH actually offered to give DD a bottle in the night if she wakes up at like 2 am!!! I was pretty shocked... but declined the offer because I was afraid of what it would do to my supply....

What would an occaisonal bottle (expressed BM) in the night do to my supply? Would I make it up when I pumped in the morning? Or would it start making make less at night?

Most likely it would affect your supply over time.
Supply/demand is sometimes a double edged sword.

ETA: You might be a bit disappointed if you couldn't sleep anyways. Your body might have a "timer" set for her to nurse! I can remember when DD was little and when she would go for longer periods of time sleeping, I would be the one awake, waiting for her to nurse!

Very valid point! lol This has happened to me when DD has slept longer than usual and I lay there just waiting and listening for her to stir. lol

The only way it wouldn't affect your supply is if you got up and pumped at that time, so there would be no benefit.
How occasional? It seems like if it only happened once every couple of weeks or something it wouldn't have much effect on your overall supply.
You could ask your husband if he would bring the baby and a glass of water to you for the middle of the night feeding. How great would that be! A snack and a foot rub would be nice too.
