Wow - awesome stuff! I joined! When is the new bill stuff going to happen?
They have less than a week to get the bill in. So it will be happening soon. Hopefully we can get TONS of consumers in on this and whatever happens with our bill let our representatives know that we want CPMs legal in NC on a consistent basis. Victoria Brown of NCFOM has some great ideas for putting our demands in the public's eye. PLEASE if you are talented in PR, Marketing, Desktop publish, etc. Do you know someone who works with the media (anywhere in NC)? If so, for sure Become a Friend of NCFOM and help us out. We need passionate people. If you've not already, join the NCFOM Yahoo group. It's not doing much as of tonight, but we want to get this board active and going nuts!

Any way you can get current legislative info up on your website?

As soon as I have the bill, etc, I will.

Rebecca
Awesome! I just got thrown a bit when the latest info on the legislation page was from 2005.

I know

That was the last time anything was said about a bill. I think it's every 2 years you have a chance to submit and we missed it in 05. Fingers crossed this time that we will get it in and rally some support. This bill won't pass overnight; we are going to need a lot of support from consumers. Early May is International Midwives Day; want to pack the streets of Raleigh with midwife supporters? NCFOM will be planning events like this, help us out, and tell your friends and family to get involved.

Hi homebirth1,

I just joined NCFOM this morning, thanks for the heads up. I don't travel much but I hope to be able to come to an event in the future. And, I hope you'll be able to make it to my birth!

Erin
Can you post some info here about the new bill?
Hi there,

We're working diligently on making the bill ready to go to drafting and as soon as our sponsor is ready to go public with it, it will be available for viewing on the NCFOM website. Thanks in advance to everyone for your support.
I joined the site - still waiting for an email though to be able to get on the yahoo groups board. I joined yesterday - does it usually take that long for it to process or do you think it didn't go through? I'd really love to help and get involved in this!
Stephanie, I'm still waiting too.
I hope you all got your Yahoo invite. If not let me know at [email protected]. Yesterday was a BUSY day and night and I'm sorry, but I just got around to inviting everyone.

Erin - I'm planning on being there! It's going to be fun.

Rebecca
Once we have a bill number we will be asking for specific help from you all. I'm going to compile a list of everyone who volunteered for specific jobs and then I'll send you an email letting you know what we need.

I can tell you that we are planning a day in Raleigh, Saturday May 5th to support International Midwives Day. Several folks volunteered to help with fun events for NCFOM, this would be one of those fun events. We want to see HUNDREDS to 1,000 plus show up for this. We can have balloons, stickers, signs, booths that tell everyone that we want quality, competent maternity care in NC. We would LOVE to get as much local media there as we can.

An ideas on this? I know we have some parents out there who would love to get involved!

We have also talked about having certain days of the month set aside for visiting your legislators. For example, every other Tuesday is Stroller/Sling day. Mothers, fathers and babies visit with their legislators, then spend the rest of the day at the local museums or place spaces or have a playdate with other CPM supporters.

What do you think?

These are the types of activities that we have thought of so far that seem very promising that we will need help with.

We will be posting more specific information on this, but you are the consumers and we need your ideas and help to do this.

It's SO EXCITING!!
