I saw those in an ad from parenting magazine, I dont like that you have to buy 4 of them when I only need one and $44 is just too expensive

Go to your local fabric store and buy a peice of muslin or similar cool fabric. You should be able to get one or even two (depending on the width of the fabric) for less than $10, maybe less than $5 if you can find something in the bargain bin. Zig zag stitch the edges to keep it from fraying.

But isn't it still too hot to have the baby's arms bound so tightly against their body? My baby loves to be swaddled too but I'm worried about cooking her if she can't get her arms away from her body to cool off.

This brings back memories. Last summer when ds was a newborn, it was the only way we could get him to sleep for any length of time. We cut up a bedsheet and used that. I was really afraid of him overheating as we don't have aircon and it's not safe to have the windows open at night. We bought a fan and kept it on a low setting all night and tried not to think about the electricity. It was only for a month or so. I also told myself that the white noise would help him sleep.

Just a gentle reminder that I had to keep in mind with my dd last summer:
What was the temperature in the environment they recently came from? Hopefully, 98.6, right? Just keep that in mind when you swaddle! They're probably fine.

I was in this situation with DS last summer. I noticed that if I left him in just a diaper, he sweat MORE. His arms against his bear chest made him sweat. I put him in a onesie and a cotton swaddle blanket. He was happy, he cried more without it.
