No, actually, it's made with a bottle of "Sweet Chili Sauce" I found in the Asian foods section at HEB (a Texas grocery chain). And thanks for the compliment!
I actually photographed the process, step-by-step, for my best friend (who wanted the recipe but was unsure about cooking tofu) and posted it on flickr for her. If you go to this link, it shows the first picture, but you have to scroll through them BACKWARDS, because I'm a flickr amateur.
Step one:
https://flic.kr/p/563020725
(I put some instructions under each pic for her.)
Ingredients:
*serves 2
Sweet Chili Sauce (bottle)
tofu (one block, extra firm)
lettuce
avocado
mandarin oranges (fresh or canned)
edamame
red pepper, sliced
sliced or slivered almonds
Newman's Own Sesame Ginger salad dressing (or dressing of your choice)
1. Cut up the tofu into 6 rectangles. Meanwhile, dump 2/3 to 3/4 of the sauce into your biggest skillet or dutch oven. Cut it with about 6 ounces of water, heat over medium until it's bubbling.
2. Add the tofu slices and simmer until most of the liquid is absorbed...when you've got kind of a sticky sludge in the pan, it's ready.
*at this point, you could stick it in the fridge if you're the type who cooks ahead for later in the week, then resume with step 3 when you're ready
3. Grill the tofu on your George Foreman countertop grill (or sandwich maker, or in the oven on a grill pan, or on the barbeque grill outside) until it has a nice grillmark on it.
4. Toss the lettuce with the veggies/fruit/nuts/dressing, then top with 3 slices of tofu.
