Anyone else have normal swelling of their ankles at this point. I'm 35 weeks and have started to have swelling of my ankles. My blood pressure is good at 110 over 70. I have no protein in my urine. Is it normal to have swelling of the ankles at 35 weeks? I worry a little more because at 35 weeks my oldest sister had a c-section with her baby due to HELLP Syndrome (a type of pre-eclampsia). She had a lot of swelling and her blood pressure went really high at 35 weeks.

Yep,

I have excellent BP, no protien, no sugar, no cramps, no nothing. I am the most textbook case of a pregnant lady you could ever hope for, and I have ankles like tree trunks
: my feet and hands are super swollen too, not as much my hands today. They have their days.

I'm not overly worried about, just annoyed. It downright hurts some days

Swelling is common. I am swollen all over. If it were just my ankles I would be happy. My fingers are so bad they are numb and I can't bend them anymore. Yesterday ds asked me why my legs and arms were so fat. They aren't fat, they are swollen. My skin is taught and stretched so far its all dry and cracked and bleeding on my hands, my toes, my lips.

No protein, bp ok, labs beautiful. I def don't have any pre e. Just super swollen. I feel like Violet from Willy Wanka.

I'm a bit swollen too. Ankles and fingers mostly. My bp at last appointment was 104/68, no protein, no sugar, etc. Some days are better than others for the swelling, but I'm considering taking off my wedding band at this point. It's titanium, too hard to cut off!

I asked DH the other night if my ankles looked swollen, I have one that I've had tendinitis in and it was feeling really puffed up. He said, "oh, your ankles have looked like that for a few months now".

Nice.

Very normal. Dr. Sears even says some is good. My bp has been normal and I've had ankle swelling since the beginning of the 2nd tri in November. I wear compression stockings to work though since I sit all day, and have on multiple occasions put my feet up in the evenings. Walking or exercise also reduces it.

personally i know when it gets warmer/humid, my ankles tend to swell more, not sure where you are if this could be helping?? thats why i like spring babies.. its not humid in maine yet

I haven't worn my wedding ring in months. We finally got a cheapo temporary one at Target (just a sterling silver band) and it's something like 3 sizes bigger than my wedding band. Some days it's way too big but other days it fits fine. Same with my feet--some days they're just a little swollen and other days they look frightening. I found that on frightening days, the advice about lying on your left side actually works pretty well. So far no signs of high blood pressure or protein in urine. I'm 34 weeks. I remember at my childbirth class they mentioned that if your face suddenly becomes very swollen that that could be a reason for concern.

Have all of you who have swelling had to also get protein checked?

I had terrible swelling the first time around starting at 36 weeks. I had pitted edema by the end of it and also got a lot of stretch marks on my calves. My Dh said my feet looked like sub sandwhiches. They were just like loaves of bread with toes sticking out!!

This time I have no swelling to report. My ring got slightly tight so I took it off last week but I don't have any visible swelling on my fingers or feet. Although my feet themselves have spread. I usually have very slender feet. Good thing its croc season!!
(I think the relaxin makes your other ligaments spread too so they will go back to normal when its over)

i don't wear shoes unless I have to, and I just wear crocks then, and they are getting tight! I normally have really 'thin' feet with long toes and I look like I have baby feet and sausage toes

The MWs check my urine every time I go (bi weekly then weekly here next week) At least I assume thats what they are doing with my pee

I get my urine checked each time I go to see my mws too, and have had no issues whatsoever. I'm actually not swelling too badly, mostly it's my already bad ankle and my fingers. Perhaps my feet are spreading, like you said April, because they don't really feel swollen, my shoes just don't fit so well!

I'm INSANELY swollen.

I call them my mutant marshmallow feet. Seriously, it's like... some comic-book X-men disaster or something. When I see my sister, I take my socks off and make her look at them, to gross her out.

When I wake up the morning, they are nearly normal... but give me an hour either walking or sitting upright, and POOF there they go. I mean they're BAD. If I ignore them and run around doing all my errands anyway, by the evening they are throbbing and I'm starting to wonder if they could literally split open.

Soaking makes it worse, the only thing that's worked for me is elevating and drinking lots and lots of water.

They've been like that since about 32 weeks.

ETA: And I get protein checked at every appointment. I had a little pre-e scare two weeks ago when my bp was up, but it's gone back down and stayed down, and the OB said at last appt that he's pretty much positive that I'm not pre-eclamptic (although I'm still getting close attention, and am keeping alert for other symptoms).

it's weird how those things change from pregnancy to pregnancy!

That's me exactly. By this time with DD I was a mess. So far so good with this pregnancy. I took my rings off about 2 weeks ago anyways, just in case, but I'm pretty sure that I could still wear them.

One difference between this time and last time is that I am following the Brewer recommendations a little more closely, so more protein and less carbs than last time. B vitamins, dandelion root, and a prenatal are all regular parts of my regimen too.

I have not swollen with any of my pregnancies, but it can be completely normal in pregnancy.

I have some pre-e symptoms, but swelling isn't one of them.

My ankles have been swelling and my blood pressure is slightly elevated. I actually did the 24 hour urine collection last week but as far as I know there is no issue with proteins in my urine. I try to keep my feet up at work and when I get home I elevate. I drink at least 100 oz of water a day and try no to include any other drinks.
