Argh! I didn't have THIS with Sam! My ankles are all mushy and swollen. I'm wearing these boots today and i went to the gym and when I took them off, my ankles looked like they had cellulite from where the boots were squishing them. Clearly I'm not wearing these any more till after I deliver! I don't know what to do! I'm drinking tons of water, but it's obviously not working. I know, cut salt, but what else???

I *think* actually that cutting salt is not so good - pregnant women actually need it more than nonpregnant women. This is what my yoga book says to do for this mushy ankle/leg problem - lie with your feet raised on a couple of pillows (like 3), or if you're comfortable, against a wall (so your body makes an "L" shape), and relax in either postion for several minutes per day. It just helps the fluids to not all accumulate in one spot and decreases swelling. I have noticed that when I wear hot, binding things (socks in particular) I get swelling as well, and I don't eat an excessive amount of salt, I don't think...

Here is a link about salt restriction from Tom Brewer (who I don't always agree with):

And from a mainstream physician:

Good luck!

If the edema gets too bad or travels to your face and hands, please see your Dr. about pre-eclampsia. Pitting edema is a symptom.
