We currently use cloth diapers, prefolds and covers, and up until now they have been working great, but as my son is getting more mobile, he often up and crawls away mid diaper change! I am looking for a quick diaper change soloution, and I think pocket diapers are it. My problem is the cost. Is it really worth it to switch now, at 9 months old? More babies are planned, but still, $14 per diaper, plus an insert?
We do have a TON of prefolds, are those ok to use as inserts? I also sew some, so I could make the inserts (but no way am I good enough to make the diaper!)

Any thoughts suggestions?
Anyone know of a wahm who sells them cheaper than Fuzzibunz? (under $10 would be helpful)

I have thought of buying used, but am kind of squeemish about that!

Thanks in advance, I know you mamas are so helpful!
It's never too late! It was at that stage with my first dd that I went to all fitteds (ME OS) and those worked much better for her wiggly little self. Those are only $10 each if you get the snap in liner. You can find some great WAHM fitteds for less than pockets and they are still easy on-easy off.

Try Baby Blanket pocket diapers. They are less expensive than many other pocket diapers. I'm sure you will get other links from other people as this thread grows.

I did manage to make my own hemp stuffers for my first set of pocket diapers. I ordered some hemp jersey, broke it in good, and cut and sewed some that where 2 layers on the outer ends, 4 layers in the middle. I still have some of them and they still work great. I don't have a serger so I used a zigzag stitch around the edges.

A lot of moms use prefolds in their pocket diapers. It's not very trim but they are much easier to put on and take off.

You can still use what you have just do every diaper change on a changing pad thats in the same place every time.Babies that get changed on the floor or a bed or the couch or anywhere the parent tries to change them don't have consistency so they take off where ever they are.All my kids get changed on the changing pad every time and they never tried to run off or get away mid diaper change because its familar to them and they know their time on the pad will be short so they can get back to what ever they were doing.

9 months is not too late to change at all, because depending on how big he is, he may be close (if not already ready) to go into larges, which will take him to potty learning. one other thought, if you need them to be cheap, you might think about buying very good quality but gently used pockets (i.e., snap-ez's or green acre designs) second hand, because I've heard lots of horror stories from mamas who've bought cheap pockets new, only to discover they barely work. I think also that harlyez (not sure I've spelled it right) are priced pretty reasonably, and get lots of raves on mdc.

I think it's actually probably the best time to switch because you will get a LOT of wear out of them. My son, who is now almost 3 years old, wears a lot of the same size diapers he wore at 9 months. So if you do decide to invest in pockets, you should get your money's worth!

Switching now is a great idea, as your little one begins to grow into the larger sizes (mostly for the rise). When my babies were born, I used covers and fitteds until about 4-6 months of age. Now it's nice and easy pockets. You can keep your prefolds and use them inside the pocket. DryBees pockets are a good price. Baby Blanket is going out of business I think...oh I'm wrong, just looking at their website there will be new owners shortly. Baby Blanket's are also a low price and it looks like there will be a sale when the new owners take over. Awesome!

I don't think its too late to switch methods.
But I've found its best to get a few, and keep the old ones too as you never know what you're going to feel like that day.

I like my FB but I think they are best on older kids, my 5 month old i like them but he's not that mobile yet. So I will probably pick up a set of large/petites (depending how chubby he gets). But for now our fitteds are doing great.

I am preparing by buying some cpf's for his fuzzis we have two now and I really like them, but I am not sure I could ever use just one system.
Some days I feel like wool, some days AIO's, fitteds.

I like the fuzzi's for my son as he gets older as I can adjust the absorbancy and once he starts walking they are a little trimmer than my others. So I think I'll be in mostly fuzzis and motherease onesize's that I have by one year.

with a few more pieces of show off fluff of course.

It's never to late to switch diapers. We've been switching back and forth from various diapers since our dd was born.

We have a wide variety of dipes that we rotate through and they all work well. I would say get a few pockets and see how you like them. They may not work for you and that way you won't feel bad spending the $.

Definitely save by using the prefolds. We use Happy Heinys and have one of the stuffin's but mostly we use the prefolds.

My home biz is going to start carrying Wonderoos and I'm interested in trying those pockets as well.

These are my favorite pocket diapers. They are well made, great customer service and her pockets used every day, hold up much better than a HH used once or twice a week.

http://store.dreamboatdiapers.wahmbiz.com/store/

Thanks for the "go ahead" confidence! Maybe I should show my husband this thread when he sees the prices!

My ds is nine months olds and we just switched from prefolds and covers to fuzzibunz. We love love LOVE them, and bought them from Mother Eve where we got free shipping, free inserts and three free infant size CPFs. We use prefolds as inserts all the time.

About the cost, which was a concern for us, we just checked around and realized that we could recover a lot of the expense by selling them after he was done. So, it's kind of a big start-up expense, but the resale value is great on FB and I'm sure a lot of other dipes.

I don't think it is too late to switch. I switched systems a couple of times with DS1 and just sold off the old system to pay for the new system. Pockets are great for quick diaper changes. We started off with CPFs and moved on to pockets when DS1 was 6 months old. Once your baby outgrows the pockets you can sell them for the next size up, too!
